      Stevie as a #9?
      Sep 05, 2012 07:31:02 am
I know this will probably never happen but why dont we try this? It would allow us to move Borini to the bench as a super sub and Gerrard is still our best finisher. Also Stevie has had trouble adjusting to the system and playing him as the striker would allow him to be more direct which he seems better suited for. Hopefully Rodgers gives this a shot because I think we have enough quality in the midfield without Stevie and I think this could solve our finishing problems. What are yalls opinions on this idea?

I think we should play him just behind the main striker (Suarez) and see how he does.

Borini's performances in the past few matches definitely have been below-par.

He is our best finisher as you said.

I'd like to see it, just hope he wouldn't get battered too much.

      Suarez            Sterling

                 Gerrard

      or
                 Gerrard

      Suarez           Sterling

      ?

they are both very similar - if Gerrard played as a 9 or 'false 9' he would possibly play as that 10 role suggests anyway. the wingers / outside forwards would play similar too. I would hope Gerrard as the false 9 would play as another midfielder coming into the box but the most advanced one - I assume Shelvey would start in the middle to give us attacking help from there. add the full backs into those four and that's a decent combination.

                           Reina

                    Skrtel     Agger

      Johnson          Allen           Enrique

                    Sahin      Shelvey

                          Gerrard

              Suarez           Sterling/Borini

Sterling/Borini  Downing  Assaidi  Cole  Pacheco some attacking options to come off the bench.. could be worse I guess..

If Stevie is to play number 9 he had better stop taking the corners,I have wanted another player to take the corners (preferably the winger) and for Stevie to hang around just outside the penalty area where he could be lethal.

      It's his ball though.
