Every Premier League fixture seems difficult even if it's at "The Fortress"- Anfield. League Cup exit can only mean one good thing - Our "Thin squad" will play 4 games lesser.

IMO Start the same eleven (as vs the bitters) except Assaidi in for Suso. We need the 3 points. YNWA

Need to step up our game from Wednesday. Admitingly, I didn't watch the game and can barely bring myself to watch any highlights but from what I have seen, as well as the comments made on here and from Brendan, it didn't make for good watching at all. Yes, a few of those who played on Wednesday will not be involved on Sunday but I am expecting a huge improvement in attitude and desire to win.

After Everton utd and Chelsea this lot are the ones I most look forward to beating. Just dont like them.

However if our lads play like they did for 80 minutes on Wednesday forget about 3 points here. There a good side with lethal firepower.

We need to approach this with a desire and passion to match a derby day and get in there faces. Tackle like our lives depend on it and support in nnumbers when were on the attack.

I know he wont but Id like to see Brendan either play 3 5 2 or 4 2 3 1. Preferably 3 5 2. 3 at the4 back to keep tabs onthere front 2 while we have 2 up front ourselves with players capable of breaking from midfield to support

                    Jones

          Skrtel Coates Agger

      Gerrard Sahin Allen Suso Enrique

                 Sterling Suarez

Gerrard and Enrique would offer options both ways while having 3 creative players in the middle who can drop deep to pick up ball from the back 3. I also believe that front 2 could be lethal

Depending on the squad Im expecting 1-1 maybe a 2-1 win.

                              Jones/Reina
              Wisdom    Skrtel    Agger   Enrique/Johnson
                                  Allen
                             Gerrard   Sahin
                    Sterling                Assaidi
                                Suarez

Could potentially be a really big game, a loss would leave us in a bad position.

If he's fit, Reina needs to return. Jones has had his chance, finally been tested and found wanting. Depending upon injuries, I think the team will be more or less the same as the one that beat Reading.

       Wisdom    Skrtel    Agger   Johnson/Enrique
                                   Allen

Its depressing but who can actually say with conviction that the team we want to see will actually turn up.
Anfield is a disaster zone and moving to a brand new stadium may have been a blessing if this home form continues.
We all saw enough at high flying Everton to know their is a decent team in there somewhere but what happend weds.
Just hope we turn up rip them to bits and win 5-0

As with every league game at the moment there is a massive potential shift dependant on the result. Huge game and have to admit I'm nervous for this one, need the 3 points lads, need a strong display and the pressure is certainly on. Man up and get the win lads!

      Skrtel       Agger

      Allen   Sahin
      Gerrard

This is what I'd go with, but Brendan will probably start Suso and have Gerrard deep. Pepe returns for me.

Id love to see us play 3 at the back again. Wisdom and Enrique pushed up a bit. Allen sitting deep with Gerrard and Shelvey infront of him with Sterling and Suarez up front. Reina in goal if fit.

Another game comes around and a tough one this will be but as always we need to get points on the board and a win is very much needed.

I'm sure most of us can have a pretty good guess how Brendan will line up based on the game the other night but I'm still hoping he changes the midfield a little and gets the captain further forward.

      Jones

      Wisdom Skrtel Agger Enrique

      Allen Sahin

      Shelvey

      Gerrard Suarez Sterling

By the way a very poor attempt at starting a match thread considering the amount of effort others have went to this season.

      Sorted that Si  ;)

Think there will be a few goals in this game, there usually is.

Need to get Wednesday out of our system, therefore I think we'll win and quite easily, the barcodes need to be battered into oblivion and make us all feel better.

I'd like to see Pepe back for this game, hopefully he's fully fit and raring to go.

I'll be in my usual spot on the Kop, cheering the lads onto victory, come on REDS. make us proud !!

Reina; Johnson, Skrtel, Agger, Enrique; Allen, Henderson, Gerrard; Sterling, Suarez, Assaidi.

Subs: Jones, Coates, Wisdom, Sahin, Shelvey, Suso, Downing.

Obviously Wisdom and Jones in if Reina and Johnson aren't fit.

Don't think we've controlled the middle of the park as well as we should be doing so I'd slot Henderson into that midfield to help Allen out and let Gerrard push up.

Ba's a doubt apparently, which is good news for us.

Somebody has to step up for those goals. Somebody, anybody. One of those crackers from Agger or some OG by Perch. Hope Allen has a good game and helps the defence. No stupid goals, please. Think Sahin will start ahead of Jonjo.

If Johnson is back, it will be big boost to our attack on the right flank.

Let us win this please and we will be just 2 points behind arsenal (that is, if they lose tomorrow)

We need to bounce back after the Swansea game. Full strength side, no excuses just get the win.

                                     Reina (if fit)
Johnson (if fit)    Skrtel      Agger      Enrique

                       Allen    Gerrard  Sahin

                  Suso         Suarez       Sterling

I think we should win this comfortably, so going for a confident 2-1 Gerrard (2)

I admittedly feared we would lose to Swansea, but I am confident we will beat this lot.  Our 1st 11 is very strong, but when you take out Stevie, Luis, Glen, Agger, and Skrtel and replace them with our squad players, we become a very average side at best :(

I think our best 11 will put a hurting on Newcastle though!!

      2-0 to us!!

Liverpool lack the players to revive their fortunes, says Alan Pardew
      • Newcastle manager sympathises with Brendan Rodgers
      • Pardew says Reds need to make a couple of new signings

      Louise Taylor
The Guardian, Friday 2 November 2012 22.00 GMT

Liverpool's Brendan Rodgers is working with one hand behind his back, says Newcastle United manager Alan Pardew. Photograph: Paul Ellis/AFP/Getty Images
Alan Pardew believes Brendan Rodgers has not been provided with the players required to revive Liverpool's fortunes and is effectively working with one hand tied behind his back.

"What Brendan has is this vision about how he would like to play," said the Newcastle United manager whose side visit Anfield on Sunday. "You need to have all the right tools for that and, I have to be honest, I don't think he has them. For whatever reason, I don't think Liverpool, in the last window, gave him all the tools he needs at that level. It was always going to be difficult for Brendan.

"Everyone can see that, they need a couple of extra players in that team. The last window did not end well for Liverpool with Andy Carroll going out on loan to West Ham and no one coming in."

Pardew is well qualified to speak about Rodgers as, during his time in charge of Reading, he employed him as a youth coach and the pair remain close. It gives him no pleasure to see his friend struggling to steer what he regards as a "vulnerable" Liverpool towards the top six after a difficult start to the season.

"There's a little bit more pressure at Liverpool because of the stature and the trophies that they've won," he said. "They still have some fantastic players, Steven Gerrard and Luis Suárez are two of the best players in the Premier League, but it's a period for Brendan and the team when they're evolving and, when they're evolving, they're vulnerable."

While essential in the long term, Rodgers's emphasis on aesthetics can be seen as exaggerating such susceptibility. "You have to remember that Brendan is someone who was brought in to play a style of football and a vision they believe in," Pardew said. "They have to give him time and the right tools.

"I know Brendan very well and I was thinking about us both the other day. I don't think we would have believed that one of us would be Newcastle manager and the other Liverpool manager – two very big clubs."

Not that he underestimated Rodgers. "I always thought Brendan would do very well, always thought he would make a great coach. He has all the right attributes to be a teacher-type coach/manager which is what he is. I admire his vision."

Where Pardew, whose key striker, Demba Ba, faces a fitness test on a shin injury, differs from Rodgers is that, were he in charge at Anfield, he would not have countenanced involvement in the recent Channel 5 fly on the wall documentary, Being Liverpool. "No, I wouldn't allow it," he said.

With hindsight José Enrique – the Liverpool left-back who had cameo moments in the expose – may regret his decision to swap St James' Park for Anfield in the summer of 2011. A huge success on Tyneside Enrique has struggled on Merseyside this season while his replacement at Newcastle, Davide Santon, is going from strength to strength after recovering from the lingering side effects of the knee injury which spelt the end of his career as a teenager wonder at Internazionale under José Mourinho.

"Along with Hatem Ben Arfa, Davide has been our best player this year," said Pardew who hopes Newcastle will secure their first league win at Anfield for 18 years. "He's getting better and I think he has a chance of getting back into the Italy national side if he continues the form he's been showing. Santon had amazing success as a boy footballer at Inter but he's a man now and he's a better player."

I believe, the game will be won or lost in midfield. I wouldn't start Henderson but Shelvey instead. We need to stiffle their midfield and cut off the supply line. I'll go for 3-5-2. We need to control the middle of the park and our players will need to stick to their midfielders like leaches and not allow them the space and time.  They scored 11 and conceded 13 against us 12 and 14, both have same goal difference. On paper, nothing much to choose between the two and it very much depends on our players confidence and how hungry are we. I wonder who voted for use to loose, there must be a mole somewhere.

I think they have some class players in attack but feel like that defense is a very enticing matchup, the only clean sheet they've kept on the road was against Maritimo when they drew 0-0. Santon seems a decent player but Colocinni, Williamson and Simpson round it out...

Need a home win, and think the redmen will be on the front foot most of the game in this one. also- Ben Arfa on the counter will be scary. They will be without Tiote which I think is huge and is a big boost for us in the midfield battle. 3-1 redmen

Think we will get the much needed win we need, it will be tight, I see us winning by the odd goal.. 2-1

Collocini was immense during the north east derby the other week, but not sure how much he or Williamson will like getting turned in tight spaces by Luis.. We need to get bodies in the box though for the second balls..

They are dangerous going forward, but if we use the ball well and try to dominate possession we can keep it away from them

      Id go

                       Reina
      Wisdom Skrtel Agger Johnson

                 Allen      Sahin

      Sterling     Gerrard       Suso

                       Suarez

      However Brendan will probably go

                      Reina
      Wisdom Skrtel Agger Johnson

                       Allen

             Gerrard      Sahin

      Sterling                   Suso

                     Suarez

We need to put a run together starting Sunday, I think we will but it will be tough..

      Come on redmen.

Would consider giving Assaidi a pop ahead of Suso.

The result? Who knows what Liverpool will turn up.

Back to the real money maker (£800k a place?) that is Premier League after the distraction of 'trying' to win trophies  :-\ so we should see a strong team line up for this.

Newcastle play an expansive enough game so we stand more than a fighting chance of scoring a few goals. If we can keep things tight at the back this could be easy enough.

We are staring regulation in the face, and newcastle have been very shrewd in the transfer market, and we have been the opposite. i dont know how long its going to be before the young players start scoring goals. But hope it can be today so we can get 3 points. The defence cant leak two goals a game. The secret play as a team and put 100% work effort in.Then we have the formula to move up the table come on reds, three points please.

Enough of the screwing around. Lets put our best back 4 out and see really where we are at. I hope Johnson's fit, he makes a big difference. Wisdom has been relied upon too much and it was starting to show in his games with an especially shakey one last weekend. Great talent, but still a youngster and needs time to rest and learn his trade.
Shelvey and Gerrard in the middle for me, Stevies not as fit as he was but still a class above the rest in terms of play makers, and against the like of Ben Arfa and Cabaye we need to close them down so they cant poke the through balls for Ba and Cisse, unfortunately Sahin isn't the man for that and we need a runner and Shelvey will be more than happy to put the boot in when needed.
Sterling and Suarez are starting to look bright together, but it gets predictable unless you throw something else in the mix and for me that's Assaidi. Great on the ball and can pull a swivel out of his ass at the right time, definitely need to get those 3 with game time between them and we could start seeing some more positive results.

                            Pepe
      Johnson  Agger    Skrtel   Enrique
                           Allen
                 Gerrard     Shelvey
       Sterling      Suarez         Assaidi

We're in a sh*t place in the league, we need to start scoring freely. I rather get beat 5-4 and have a go of it that 1-0 with a Ba set piece.
Lets go for the Jugular boys!

Other results have gone our way today, we need to win tomorrow to make the most of that.  Top half of the table beckons for the first time this season.

I've gone for a win as always, think we'll do it too.  Saw a shocking stat on twitter, 14 months since we got back to back wins in the league at Anfield.  If that's true, it needs to change starting tomorrow!

      Gerrard

      Suso

Subs; Jones; Wisdom, Carragher; Henderson, Sahin, Downing, Assaidi.

Got a good feeling about this one, play our strongest side.

If Reina and Johnson are both still injured I'd replace them with Jones and Wisdom respectively.

I like 352 and if worked on can be a very hard formation to play against, having said that I can't have Wisdom as a wing back, really like the lad think he's a breathe of fresh air n cracking defensively (excluding the derby) but he's not in same league going forward.

I am going for a lose to be honest. When the results of competitors goes in our way we always seem to lose. And i don't think we have that mentality to win yet.

Considering everyone is saying everton have had a really good start to the season and we have had a poor one,a win today will only put us 4 points behind them in 4th place.

      The bookies view..

It's time to sound like a broken record again, so apologies to those of you who know the drill. Liverpool are 12th in the Barclays Premier League. They've won one of five home games, and have also been beaten at Anfield in both the League Cup and the Europa League. It's a trend that goes back to last season, when they won less than a third of their home games - having been good for at least 12 since 2004, they managed just six. Come the end of the season, that's why they finished three places and 13 points behind Newcastle. And yet here we are again, with Liverpool quoted at 4/7, genuinely one of the worst value prices you'll see all season (except for almost all other Liverpool games). Now, this isn't to say they can't or won't win, nor is it the fault of Brendan Rodgers or any member of the Liverpool staff. But it does mean that all we have to do here is decide how to back Newcastle because if you oppose Liverpool at home with any half-decent side, you'll end up in front. And Newcastle are more than half decent. After all, they're two places and three points ahead of Liverpool and arrive looking for their third consecutive win in all competitions. It must be noted that they're winless on the road, but draws at Everton and Sunderland show that they're more than able travellers, and while their record at Anfield is poor, that's more than factored in to all markets and is a fine example of how historical evidence can become virtually irrelevant. Demba Ba is only rated '50-50' by Alan Pardew but in Papiss Cisse the Newcastle manager knows he has a striker he can rely on, and if the visitors can keep Luis Suarez quiet then that's half the battle won. Newcastle can be backed at 4/1 in Coral's 'draw no bet' market and that's a ridiculous price, so we'll have a decent wager. If you do want to side with Liverpool, back Suarez at 100/30 to score their first goal because he's probably closer to a 2/1 chance, but we're firmly in the away camp here.

Lets hope we prove them wrong....

It's not often 90% of the matches go our way, yesterday was one of those days. Now we have the ability to make up ground on Spurs, Everton, Arsenal and Newcastle with one match

I'll be thrilled with a 1-0. We just need a win. Some confidence.

My mate's a good Newcastle fan an he's said they really havent played that well so far this season. Neither have we.

Huge match this. If climbing the table isn't an incentive to these players then they should just F***ing give up.

Glen and Pepe still doubtfull, Ba should play according to SSN but we cant worry about them. Our lads have more than enough about them to beat these today. As mentioned above, with results going our way yesterday this was already a big game but even more so now.

They changed the clocks here in the States this AM. This match is starting at 11am on the US East Coast right, not noontime?  ???

      A. We need to win. 3 big points that could start our climb up the table. Plus a win over a likely rival for European places.
      B. If we don't, I'll be depressed from the loss AND the darkness coming an hour earlier here tonight. Winter has arrived, argh!

      Let's goooooo! :scarf:  I predict a 2-1 win.  xxxxx:action-smiley-065:
