      Need Something to Do!
      Nov 02, 2012 12:58:19 pm
So, as the year has gone on I've taken more and more of a backseat in the running of my company, mostly so as not to undermine my son who is now doing what I used to do.

I like golf, and I play most days, but it's just not very satisfying on a mental level, and the gym is the same.

I'm thinking about going back to Uni or College to do a course or a degree. I've already taken a creative writing course, at the suggestion of the mrs, but I didn't like it that much as it's not really my thing.

I need something that challenges me mentally, because there's a huge void in my life right now that used to be filled by working.

Any ideas or thoughts on degree courses?
I don't want to do anything related to the environment, construction or architecture, and I'm pretty sure I'm not brainy enough to do any sciences and besides I've forgotten most of the basics. I'm not into art and I have the musical ability of a tone deaf moose.

Something fun, but fulfilling. Photography is the first thing that springs to mind, lots of technical stuff but with a creative outlet as well.

I just know I need to do something, because I'm starting to get bored shitless!

I already do quite a bit of that.

Tell you what im doing or trying to do at the moment,im trying to find a safe way for Blinds to be wound up with out leaving any cord visible,i have read the stories of children hanging themeslves on the cords which in todays world is unacceptable and a very horrific way to lose a child.

See what you can come up with Swab.

It's a thought, but I could never even get my head round my native language at school (Irish) and that was with the christian brothers trying to beat it into us ;D

Been looking at photography degrees today, and it seems I wouldn't have to do a foundation course or anything.

Maybe you could mix the two?
Then you could say " remove the top now love" in Italian or " yeah just look innocent... But at the same time dirty" in bulgarian..

       :D

In all seriousness I hope you find something to get your teeth into mate.

What you play off at golf by the way?

      Good then... I'm off 8.

Frustrating issue with putting currently, trying to adapt my grip to sort it out

      You tried a long putter?
I couldn't get on with them, and completely changed my grip, but I know a couple of blokes who swear by them.
I ended up bracing the putter against the inside of my forearm, and gripping it tightly with my left hand while letting the right arm control the swing, like the classic metronome style, but with a more secure grip on the putter.

Never tried one mate, want to iron it out with a traditional putter..

I was letting my left hand lead the putt, don't know how it crept in but I've changed the grip to make it more traditional again, I have developed a weird back swing currently through it.

It's almost like having the yips.. I kept going underside of the hole all the time.

Feels a bit weird currently but I'm missing less again

hope you get there mate, it might take a while but it's easily doable.

Worst problem I had was a stutter on my backswing about halfway up. I have no idea what caused it. It just appeared out of the blue and took bloody ages to get rid of, but the funny thing was it only happened with longer clubs and irons.
I'm still convinced it had something to do with my eyes, and I spent many an hour out in the garden hitting into a net, but it went as suddenly as it appeared.

      Golf's a weird F***ing game sometimes.

I think that's why when the game grabs you then you can't get enough.. You never feel you have got on top of it

Played yesterday, shot 81 (par72) but missed 4 easy putts... Frustrating to say the least..

Like you say I'll sort it out, just frustrating right now. The game is in the head

Why not take up playing the guitar.

I tried it a few years ago on my sons advice after he'd been playing for a few years, but thanks to my sausage fingers I can't get the chords properly.
Might be an idea to get a bass though and play along with my lad when he plays guitar.
      Bass is easier, right?

Less strings and generally not as complex arrangements.
Also the bonus of Red Hot Chili Peppers Flea giving you some great material.

So, more room for sausage fingers and I get to do something my lad enjoys. That could be a plan.

Despite being 54, I actually love the chilli peppers as well :D
