Liverpool FC vs Wigan Athletic - Saturday 17th November - 3pm KO
      Nov 13, 2012 08:05:10 am

So up next, a rarity for us, a Saturday league match with a traditional 3 o'clock kick off.

Just two league wins for the Reds so far this season and despite being on a decent unbeaten run in the league we are desperate to get into a winning habit and need nothing less than three points from this game.

Wigan have won two out of their last three league games including a 1-0 victory away at Spurs and currently lie just a point behind us in 14th spot. Don't forget they beat us in this fixture last season 2-1 and I'm sure Martinez would love another victory after what happened in the summer.

As usual, we have a number of players flying all over the world this week with another round of international matches so, for us all another week of keeping everything crossed and hoping our lads return injury free.

Despite our recent home record, we are still odds on to win this at 4/9, the draw is 10/3 and Wigan are 13/2.

It's got to be a win and 3 points for us,we cannot hang around waiting for January. Some team sometime has got to get a hiding off us so it might as well be Wigan.

Lets hope the bookies are right.

Lets hope Luis arrives back in one piece. Hes only got to fly to Gdansk and back.

It comes to something when we are relying on one player.

Good luck to all the lads away with their countries this week, just hope they all come back injury free.

I've got a good feeling about this one, just hope we can put our chances away.

I think BR will have a bit of a headache over who to select in goal. He has openly admitted Pepe is our No1 keeper and Jones would be our back up. But Jones has been almost faultless when he's played this season.
That aside, I think Reina will come back into the side.

In defence, I'd like to see us play four the back with Johnson and Enrique either side of Skrtel and Agger (Rumours going around that Agger is out for two weeks, if that's the case, I'd stick Carra alongside Skrtel)

I think the midfield needs to be tinkered a little bit, Gerrard and Allen have to start for me, but it's out of Shelvey, Sahin, Henderson or Suso who plays with them. After his impressive cameo against Chelsea, I'd go for Suso. Sahin has looked off the pace and doesn't look to be adding anything to the side that Susp can't.

Obviously you'd have Suarez in the centre of the front three, with Sterling on the right. On the left, we could either have Assaidi or Downing. I'd go for Assaidi, his pace and skill could really hurt the Wigan defence.

      -------------------Reina--------------------

      ---Johnson---Skrtel---Agger---Enrique---

      --------------------Allen--------------------

      ---------Gerrard------------Suso-----------

      --Sterling-------------------------Assaidi--

      -------------------Suarez-------------------

Subs; Jones; Wisdom, Carragher; Henderson, Sahin, Cole, Downing.

Going back to what I said earlier about the back four. If Carra does come in for Agger, I'd put Coates on the bench.

I feel that side would get us 3 points, and hopefully we can get 3-4 goals and show the other 'big' sides we still mean business.

Wigan: If you aren't aware, they like to play 3-4-3 or 3-5-2, I would expect to the the latter played on Saturday. They are a side that keeps going until the last minute and like to hit sides on the break. Arouna Kone and Shaun Maloney are the players we need to keep an eye on. Both like to wonder around the pitch to find space, but I'm sure Allen and Gerrard will keep them quiet!

Really looking forward to this one and just hope we can start making Anfield back into the fortress it once was! Come on Reds!

I hope the lads won't take it that the game is already won before the ball is even kicked. Must work doubly hard to ensure we bag 3 points. Let's not underestimate Wigan.

Be hard to perform as badly as this fixture last year. Wigan have been blowing hot and cold this season though maybe, just maybe, Martinez will want to show us what we missed out on.  ;)

Going to this, weird it being a Saturday at 3pm match....

We have to perform here, a draw this time around won't cut it.

Can we just once this season destroy a team at Anfield and bang in 5 or 6 goals.Starting this weekend.

Bogey team. We rarely beat them easily it seems. 3 points is necessary, don't care how.

      Jones

      Johnson
      Skrtel
      Wisdom
      Enrique

      Allen
      Gerrard
      Suso

      Sterling
      Suarez
      Assaidi

      Don't think that'll happen, but it's what I'd like.

16th December 2009 last time we beat them at Anfield, we won't stuff or destroy them, it will be a nail biter. But hopefully we can scrape a win.

Thats correct...want to see the players coming out the gates firing and when I mean firing mean f**king firing!!!!
We need to press higher, play the ball faster, shoot and commit inside the area. That all said and done we should win it 3 nil!!! for christ sake we are due it!! ;D

This is a must win for the lads. We have six vital games where we should be looking for 12/18 points.

Wonder will Rodgers look to the likes of Assaidi and Shelvey for this. Maybe give Sterling and Allen a break

If we don't have any injury worries from the internationals and we can actually field our best 11 (at present) then i think we'll put in a very good performance and bag the 3 points.  For me, it has to be:

                      Pepe*
      Johno Skrtel Agger Enrique
                     Allen
            Gerrard   Sahin
        Suso   Suarez  Sterling

Suso and Suarez seem to have a nice chemistry with one another.  Allen looks lost playing in a 3 CB formation, but in the 4-3-3 he is brilliant!!  Put this team out, press them hard and let Suarez work his magic!!  I fancy some goals from midfield in this one, so Gerrard and Suso both to strike for me!!!  3-0 to the Reds with Suarez the other goalscorer :)

Cannot wait for this one!!!!   YNWA

This obviously going to have to depend on the international week, but I'd go with something like this:

      Pepe
      Skrtel    Coates
      Johnson                          Enrique
      Hendo     Sahin
      Gerrard
      Suso                    Sterling
      Suarez

Coates in the side because Agger withdrew from Denmark. Allen to be rested because he needs it. Pepe if he is 100% fit.

For Saturdays game against Wigan I think Brendan should set the team out to just go at Wigan from the start and attack them,Id play asssisdi and sterling up with Suarez and tell the to run at the defense early in the game.

Try and get a goal, because when we score early we go on to win,but the longer and longer it stays 0-0 then Wigan will gain confirdenece and try and nick a goal second half.

but if we score early then they will have to come on to us and then we can pick them off and maybe bang a hat full of goals!!   :lmao:

      My Team                             JONES
                       Johnson     Skrtel       Agger    Enrique
                                Allen           Gerrard
                                         Shelvey
                        Assisdi        Suarez      Sterling
