Ilori deal with an option to buy confirmed by Pearce. Confirms what we all suspected Rodgers does not want him.

We really are clueless in the transfer market!

A loan deal to a premiereship club is acceptable, we can see how he copes with the English game(if he is given a chance by villa)
BUT to agree and give them option to buy is ridiculous
don't understand much on this...does this mean if villa wants him on a permanent  in a year's time they can have him , and LFC cannot have him back if he turns up  good enough?........
hope  I am wrong in this, but if my thinking is right , it is a ridiculous deal done by the club, not knowing how he will perform in the premiere

The player could refuse the move even if the option is activated.

it still is a ridiculous deal to do IMHO
guess a fee, if they want to buy is already fixed and that makes it more a wrong deal , and if he turns out to be very good?
maybe the club /BR don't rate/want him enough without seeing him playing in England
maybe he turns out to be flop...but how do they know

Borini 10m, Ilori 7m, Aspas 7, Luis Alberto 7m. That's a top class player's transfer fee wrapped up in 4 strange signings.

I think ringing the Shake n Vac offices might do more good than waiting for John and Tom to make good their promises of "competing with anyone" etc etc.

Don't know how anyone else feel but for me it feels like our summer window activity was incomplete.

We have not signed a defensive midfielder, which in my view was one of our priorities - Lucas isn't the player he used to be and is not reliable (injuries are common). I don't trust Can in that position, at least not yet - erratic and not disciplined enough, seems to actually do a better job at CB.

Left back remains an issue. I have no confidence whatsoever in Moreno; going forward offers little else other than pace, and can be a nightmare defensively. Joe Gomez looks to be a super player but he's a centre back who was playing right back at Charlton - the fact that he is our first option at left back should actually be seen with alarm, IMO, not as something normal.

As much as I'm happy with the signing of Firmino, I do wonder how we plan to make use of him - both him and Coutinho are better used in the middle, not as wingers. Against West Ham in particular, we had no width at all (the fact Gomez was on the left and offered little going forward did not help), which is alarming if you think our only players that could be called 'wingers' are Ibe, who's far from the finished article but probably not ready for the first team, and Lallana, who's arguably too slow to make an impact there.

It's very early in the season to make definitive judgements but I'm unsure about how that will work out during the season, and the fact we were supposedly interested in players like Cheryshev seemed to point towards us wanting to bring at least one more player who's capable of open space defences and provide width (similarly to what Navas offers City) - particularly on the left, as we have so few left footed players in the squad right now! Apart from Moreno and Sakho, who else have we got? Against West Ham we had 11 right footed players.

I'm happy with the players we actually signed, particularly Clyne and Milner, but also Gomez, Ings and Benteke, but it makes you wonder about the club's priorities. Oh well... I'll have to wait and see

I fully agree. But it's also f**king ridiculous that we apparently needed a team overhaul again. I mean, in total that would've made about 6 new players in our starting 11. And even then we would still have concerns left about our 2 central defender positions too. There is no consistency whatsoever, and after 3 years Brendan hasn't build sh*t.

I do get the feeling that Brendan doesn't particularly see the need for your typical specialist dm, look at the start of the season with a midfield two of henderson and milner. Lucas seems to be being used as a stop gap measure and he has mentioned Joe Allen playing that role. I do agree our transfer business was incomplete with the lack of fullback options the most obvious area of concern. Wingers seem to be a dying breed as well with the fullbacks being relied on to provide the width. Got a feeling the old 3 cb's will get more airings this season as Brendan can't seem to settle on the right balance for the team.

      In a perfect world yes.

But in the real world even if we got Klopp I really think FSG would be reluctant to pay the £150 plus million it would cost us to sign those players.
