General LFC Transfer rumours/gossip thread

From time to time we get a few football faces in the pub, one or two players, coaches, managers, agents etc. I was chatting with an agent this morning and he told me that his firm offered that Anthony Martial everywhere 18 months ago for a loan with a view. We were amongst the clubs who turned it down flat, the main interest came from Everton. Apparently Martinez was well up for it but they changed their minds late on. Might be a load of bollocks, but the fella has no reason to lie. Anywhere there it is.

Something about Gundogan mate, he's been really chirpy since Klopp got the job. Does seem to have shown an overly keen interest. Of course that's me being hopeful but still it'll be great to see him in our team

Not really as Gundogan plays more as a DLPM and Hendo's strengths are really more forward as a box to box.

Interesting he would go out and sign two midfielders when that's the position we are most covered in, i would say.

If we sign Ruben Neves, i'll be delighted only because i'm only familiar with him on FM and it'd save me £30m trying to sign him in every save

But in all seriousness, Gundogan and a new keeper would be absolutely immense business. We have been crying out for a keeper since Mignolet replaced Pepe. No idea who this Karius fella is but if he has great distribution and communication with his defence then he would be an instant improvement.

Also saw a link to Bernd Leno (albeit in the Metro) but that would just top me off.

Please, no.

not because he isn't good enough.  But because this is exactly the type of idiotic transfer business we have to avoid.  He was available on a free in the summer.  For free.  Literally nothing.  Now, if we want him, Swansea will hold us to ransom for £20m or something.  They beat us to him.  They were smarter.  End of.  It happens.  Let's learn from it and move on.  Let's find the next top player who is on a free.

it's getting very tiresome paying smaller clubs ridiculous amounts of money for players we could've had for much cheaper.  Lovren went to Saints for £8m.  We then paid them £20m for him.  If he was so good why did we not buy him when he was available?  Benteke, for F**k's sake, went to Villa for £4m.  If he had so much potential why didn't we buy him when he was available for that much?

All these smaller clubs are making us look like fools by acquiring players on the cheap then making us pay premium for them.  So we'll give Swansea £20m for Ayew, so they can then go and buy other top players on the cheap and overtake us?  no thank you.

I think we need to add a naturally wide left player too. I think Ibe can do a job in time, but we also need that left wide man

I think next season something like one of Markovic/Ibe/Wilson/Kent/Ojo, Coutinho, and Firmino would be a good three behind Sturridge. We've enough talented wingers, I think, so unless we had a chance at getting someone who was genuinely top class I'd give the ones on our books a chance first.

Gundogan and Neves (he's an absolutely cracking player for one so young)? Yes please. Not sold on Karius though. He's an athletic keeper but I don't see how he's any better than say Jack Butland who's another young keeper perhaps we're trying to avoid that English player bonus we'd have to pay and Klopp would perhaps be more familiar with Karius but that's one instance where I'd be more inclined to look closer to home.
