General LFC Transfer rumours/gossip thread

Totally random but I was reading a TAW article on the January window, and tried to come up with a lineup of the players we've signed in this period. What about this: Carson; Arbeloa, Skrtel, Agger, Insua; Mascherano, Grujic, Coutinho; Maxi, Suarez, Sturridge. Not too bad is it?

Would probably have Biscan in place of Grujic, just for sentiment (although he signed in December?)

Dunno mate, I only used players who were mentioned in the TAW article. I also have a soft spot for Biscan, haha, as I do for absolutely every player involved in the 2005 UCL.

It is reported in a Portuguese paper mate, unsurprisingly it is in Portuguese but the gist of it is LFC are in negotiations with Sporting Lisbon.

I was reading some of the comments on the link you posted though, and not all of them are positive towards the player. The article mention a price "upwards of 30m euros", about which one person commented:

"30 million? For the poor performances he's giving us, he's not worth even half of that. If Liverpool offered 30 million I'd include Rui Patrício as bonus"

You have the advantage on me with your grasp of Portuguese, not a credible article it seems.

Hey mate, I can't say I watched a lot, but a few good games yes, and they were mostly wins for RBL so overall I was quite impressed with players like Forsberg, Keita, Timo Werner, Orban and an Austrian winger whose name eludes me now.

Keita has been impressive for Leipzig, he's a little machine in midfield and likes to get forward quite often. I have a friend from university who is from Austria and said when he played Red Bull Salzburg, Keita was tested as a defensive midfielder and struggled for a while, but has since become much better when given freedom to attack, in a more dynamic, box to box type of role. RBL usually play Keita along with a more defensive partner in Diego Demme from what I've seen.

Tough for me to say if he's ready to make the step up at this point but he's still very young and does look like a very good player

Cara's comments last night that Southampton had more on the bench than us (in reference to Shane Long etc.) is perhaps an indication that we could do with a couple in.

I get the argument that its not worth signing players unless they're better than what we've already got but a few different options - especially off the bench would be nice.

I.e. if we buy someone who is quick to worry defenders - they don't have to be better than Mane - but able to cover for him when he is not around as we have obviously missed his threat going forward

A winger and a DM would do us in this window I think. The DM would replace Hendo so he can move into Wijnaldums place and the winger for cover for Mane or Coutinho.

see this is what I don't agree with at all, this mentality that why buy if its not better then what's there. Example say an ex red, Andy Carroll, better than what we have? Debatable but he'd offer us a different approach. Players don't have to be better then whats there just give us more and different options for the time being.

Tell ye what Robbie Brady being linked with Palace and Burnley, we could do worse. Option at left full left mid and centre mid. And vitally can take a wicket corner

We might as well not have a winter transfer board. Just open the summer one up full time cause that's the only time we are going to buy players.
