Respectfully I disagree. Loads of players involved with Man Utd during the 1990s talked about the impact of new high quality signings and how it galvanised the existing group of players pushing them to do even better.
It’s a real thing, not some kind of placebo effect ... and, as we are the current European Champions, we are in a great position to entice quality (not necessarily ‘big’ names) but we seem to have imposed our own transfer embargo on ourselves this summer!
There are always outliers, and the fact that united were miles ahead of everyone, by virtue of having a core that had been together through all age levels of club and representative football made them an outlier.
Our squad is new together by comparison.

Despite throwinng huge sums of money around it took city 4 years to win the title, and they only did it because they had a settled core.
