I can't imagine the mood among the players right now.

Must be grim.

He will be gone next Summer..why would we be foolish to hold on to him...his new 5 year deal literally just kicked in on July 1st.

Interesting stat, anyone notice the common denominator with these players for what ever reasons.

He will be gone next Summer..why would we be foolish to hold on to him...his new 5 year deal literally just kicked in on July 1st.

Same reason Southampton would be foolish to hold on to Van Dijk - because he's worth more as a realised asset (ie sold), than as a sulking, non-playing, disruptive influence around the club.  I bet he'll be off as soon as a couple of serious buys come in, to appease the fans.

I think contracts matter very little in this situation, because players can't really be held to them any more, when it comes to the crunch.

Agree completely.

Also, whom have we signed? We are not building for future. Why should Coutinho stay when we are not really getting high calibre players. I love LFC but I am frustrated by our lack of transfers.

So basically we're driving a Civic. We would love a Ferrari, but can't get our hands on one, we can get a Mercedes though, but nah we're all set because we can't have contingency plans.

We probably need five or six players if we want to achieve anything meaningful.

But we can't get Messi so we won't try for anyone else.

Tried all summer to sign 2 players and not only have we failed to sign both we are on the verge of losing our best player. So other teams are improving and we are once again going backwards.

I'm losing Faith in Klopp in the transfer windows .. He failed massively in January when we needed cover for injuries and he's once again failed this window.

The players he's missed out on with no plan b is embarrassing. . Texiera, Keita, VVD, Dahoud should all have been reasonable targets and we failed with them all.

He wants to sign players that can fit straight into the first 11.. well I could name over 100 players, yet Klopp can only find 2.

Name me 5 CB's and 5 CM's that we would be able to get (Wages, fee, club, ...), that actually fit the system Klopp wants to play and that would be a noticable improvement on the CB's and CM's / AM's we currently have, smartass. And I'm talking about improving our starting eleven, because that's what we should be doing, not improving on the likes of Klavan, Grujic, Gomez or whatever.

I agree with the sentiment of this argument, but there is no need to buy flops across the board which we cant get off the books for years to come - it has hampered us in the past.

From a Center Back perspective, yes we should be looking to buy another 2 and should have had ~6 targets to go after depending on transfer availability. We cant defend set pieces - even some championship players could bridge the gap and a 20MM investment would address some of our most pressing problems.

For all other positions in the squad, we need to improve the first team. Yes there are targets out there but for some of the places we are looking for a "solution" for, we need top class talent (CF, box-to-box CM, DM) to push on, and there aren't that many options out there...

We don't have to buy playes as good as Van Dyke or Keita in order to make improvements to our squad. The problem yet again comes down to a lack of contingency planning. Not buying players to improve us increases the chances we'll undo last season's good work and finish outside the Champions League and be unable to attract Van Dyke or Keita next season. Our lack of contingency planning has been our Achilles heal each window since the formation of our transfer committee.
