Premier League interest in Lazio striker Mauro Zarate

      Last Updated: January 28, 2013 8:53pm

Sky Sports understands that a number of Premier League sides are keen on bringing Lazio striker Mauro Zarate back to England.

Zarate enjoyed a productive loan spell at Birmingham in 2008, with his efforts at St Andrew's helping to earn him a move to Italy.

The Argentine frontman made a bright start to life in Serie A, but has struggled for goals of late.

Lazio are keen to move him on, freeing up funds and space in their squad.

At the age of 25 there is still plenty of football left in Zarate and a move to England could help to reignite his career.

The likes of Sunderland, Stoke and Liverpool are all said to have cast an eye in Zarate's direction.

Not convinced by this as it seems like a load of tosh even though we were linked with him before under Benitez... :-\

Loved him when he was younger and think Birmingham used him badly when they had him on loan, but he seem to have lost his way during his career... after he made facist gestures for the Lazio fans, I lost any interest.

Agree, he looked terrific for Birmingham. Was surprised no one in the PL was looking at him permanently.

Totally forgot about that gesture. Lazio are a twisted club. Seems their fans infect their players too.

Which is why ya man Diakite is looking to get outta there!...I don't understand why them fans are rascist when they have coloured & asian players on their books!...I know you would be talking about a minority but still...

To me, the best way to deal with rascist fans & get the clubs to sort their fans is to hit clubs with points deductions, they won't like it!
