Pardew saying he 'protects' him in training does not sound to me like proper training to then be prepared for Premier League games.
Really unfortunate for him. After getting our hopes up a while back with his 'strengthening period' when they really seemed to try and nurture him back, looks like this is going to be the way of it for the remainder of the time he has left in the game.Either way, can't see him in a red shirt again. And to be clinical about it, we should really have sold him in summer gone, after he had a half decent end to last season. Hard to think of any other player who is/was more fragile.Just looked at his appearances per season. As far as I can see, out of 14 premier league seasons, he played less than 15 times in 10 of those seasons !!! Unreal. If we're being run by moneyballers, you'd think he'd have been shipped out well before now...
Think we did the right thing loaning him out. His career is over I think. He should take up punditry.
Rodgers did something similar with him when he was manager here, definitely didn't have him intensely training in the same way Klopp does.
Reports that he will out till April. We all could have predicted the outcome of his initial minor strain. I doubt he gdts any meaningful game time with WBA.
West Brom could be relegated by the time he gets fit. I wonder whether we'd even be able to find a buyer for him at this rate!
How much longer is his contract with us?
Maybe he could try the MLS...might suit him and his lifestyle.
Only 28, crazy to think injury has robbed him of his prime/peak years and stopped him from ever reaching his full potential. Could have been up there with the likes of Aguero, Lewandowski, Kane etc.
Oh his day (when healthy) I think he was better than Kane is now.
I personally think Danny will be with us until his contract runs out. After this latest injury on loan at West Brom you would have to be brain dead to pay a transfer fee for him now, especially the amounts that we are asking for him. I'd imagine another loan to someone perhaps next season. The old Danny Sturridge is gone and I suspect we won't see that again from him.
to be fair on Sturridge, when he played he's been decent. I think if he retired now he'd have our respect, but lingering on for a free 3.5 million in wages is just leeching from us now. There really should be clauses in contracts where extended time off results in regular sick pay like anyone else. Lucky we are not paying his wages whilst he's at west brom, but we'll be lucky to find a team stupid enough to pay his wages while we transfer him to their injury bench.
When does his contract run out? I thought he was on 150K a week.
Don't know why everybody is worried about his wages...everytime he goes on the trainers table the club gets insurance payments...not like were losing money.
Surely not! Insurance companies take money they don't pay in my experiences.
They have disability insurance for every players in that squad down to U18's.There might be a 1-week exclusion period but long term injuries are covered...all teams have it.
got any sources of information? It sounds a bit farfetched to me.
I doubt any Insurance company would touch Sturridge with a barge pole
