Player valuations and the FFP rules?
      Nov 18, 2012 10:29:59 am
Since the Luis to sh**ty rumour broke and the subsequent valuations being thrown around, I've been thinking about the amounts paid for players previously and how the FFP rules will effect them in the future.

If the rules state that clubs have to turn a profit and owners are only allowed to inject a certain amount above the turnover to bring in new players, who the hell is going to be able to pay £20m, £30m or £40m plus for anyone?

There are very few clubs who make a profit and some of the losses aren't just a few million, they are multi millions.

Will this mean that player valuations will start to drop, along with wages but with an increase in bonuses and/or performance related pay?

Please discuss/debate but without the usual FSG, Kenny, Rafa arguments  ;)

If you pay 80 million for Ronaldo or 100 million for Messi you would earn that money back ten fold by shirt sales sponsors etc etc so it will be offset. It's buying the right player at the right price and if it will benefit the club both on and off the field that owners need to get right.

Yet both the clubs they play for are still making multi million pound losses every year?

Bayern Munich is a prime example of a club that already abides by the FFP rules, yet still spends big money, allbeit wisely. Bayern turns positive figures every season. Spend 32 million pounds on Javi Martinez this summer. They spend 60 million during a summer transfer period without breaking a sweat. They're supposed to even have money saved in the bank. They're still paying off their stadium, which should be paid off in 3-4 years, then they'll really be a force to be reckoned with, even without the FFP rules coming into effect.

Ofcourse prices should stagnate and perhaps even drop if the FFP rules will function properly. But if the biggest clubs are run well, they'll still be able to spend quite a bit.

After the recent transfer of Sneijder this deserves a bump as it seems more Clubs are looking to rid themselves of highly paid players who are contributing little or nothing to their Clubs.

Our streamlining of the wage structure has been confirmed and I think more teams will be doing the same come the summer.

Already existing debt doesn't count towards the FFP rules.

That's a pity, but I am sure there will be many loopholes in the FFP rules and they will be exploited by some clubs.
