That's absolutely shitty being burgled. I remember coming home from school (age 6) to find our home had been burgled and seeing my mum cry, one of the worst feelings ever to see how helpless she was. Took us a few months to rebuild and feel safe around the community.

Looking at the Barclona forum I can see that Barcelona fans seem a bit worried about Coutinho straying forward towards the front 3, basically saying he needs to create not wait for passes. Their concern is valid, that if Coutinho ventures out of position the defence moves forward to pass which leaves them exposed against bigger sides. Must admit, as good as Coutinho is I am not sure he was always worth the defensive weaknesses.

Think you’re being a bit harsh on him mate. I dont remember many questioning his work rate when he was here. Personally think he done as much as could be expected; he was no Firmino but I recall him winning possession back deep in our half on quite a few occasions.

At Barcelona though, I can see the concern. He is so used to receiving the ball and operating in those spaces behind the forwards. Trouble is, you have at least 3 others trying to operate in those spaces (not least Messi) and quite often he is running about aimlessly and being bypassed.

Hmm there are 2 other big factors which might skew those results, Karius and VVD, but I said at the time that I didn't thing we'd miss Phil that much and so far I've been proven correct.

I'd be interested to see stats on without Karius, VVD and Coutinho and also alternative stats with Coutinho. I've said it before that Coutinho leaves too much a void in defence. As a forward he's not really world class, 1 goal in 3 or 4 games. As a midfielder he can't defend. He can play well as a number 10 but not that many systems need a number 10. I certainly don't think he would deserve a starting spot if he were here. He's a talented player but his attributes are not well rounded enough to excel in any particular position in my opinion

A common factor with us, it's that we tend to find our best form after Christmas. We'd likely be doing as well if not better with Coutinho still here. But definitely VanDijk has been the difference for us.

Think it's safe to say that Coutinho isn't the correlation in those numbers.
Agreed it's more likely to be Big Virgil's arrival and the form of Robertson & Karius.

Wonder what the Mignolet stats look like.

It’s partly at least because the little pr**k was playing selfishly. We are better with everyone playing for the team and not themselves and their next big move.

      Good riddance.

Think the stats were just like these before the arrival of Virgil, and the inclusion of Robertson, and Karius. Apparently we also scored more goals per match without Coutinho, at the time of his departure.

      Jan 8 2018 - Liverpool with/without Coutinho.

      With Coutinho

      GP   W   D   L   GF   GA
      20   8   10   2   50   23

      Without Coutinho

      GP   W   D   L   GF   GA
      12   10   1   1   31   14

All this includes the fact that Coutinho played in both 7-0 wins over Spartak and Maribor but was absent for the 5-0 Man City loss which all pad his statistics.

backs up my theory, that behind all that dazzling wizardry is a major hole in defence that does more damage than we could cope with. He does not belong in midfield. Weather he can be a complete package as a forward it is yet to be seen, my estimation is he is a talented but overpriced winger.
