Surprised nobody's mentioned this but I think it's very befitting for it to be awarded to Anne.

If anyone overcame adversity it was Anne.

Hope you're still resting in peace.

For any of you who don't know what the award is about this is from Wiki

The BBC Sports Personality of the Year Helen Rollason Award is an award given annually as part of the BBC Sports Personality of the Year ceremony each December. The award is given "for outstanding achievement in the face of adversity", and the winner is selected by BBC Sport.[1] The award is named after the BBC sports presenter Helen Rollason, who died in August 1999 at the age of 43 after suffering from cancer for two years.[2][3] Helen Rollason was the first female presenter of Grandstand. After being diagnosed with cancer, she helped raise over £5 million to set up a cancer wing at the North Middlesex Hospital, where she received most of her treatment.[4]

I still maintain that the media hoped the families would react in a stereotypical fashion. However Anne and the rest of the families have acted with such courage and dignity over the past 24 years they have all been a credit to the city. Anne in particular showed a dogged determination to get to the truth that again shows the true nature and character of a scouse MUM. What a lady.

Don't know if anyone caught SPOTY and see the award for Anne. Was incredibly moving, Jocky Hansen was in tears and there wasn't a dry eye in the house. Really felt myself welling up watching it, found it difficult to keep it together.

      Well deserved award, RIP Anne.

It was moving and greatly deserved.

My missus was in floods of tears and she only really has a passing interest in the reds but is a big supporter of the fight for justice and Anne's struggle in particular.

A very moving piece on Sports Personality tonight (a very emotional Alan Hansen really said it all). Wonderful woman, and I pray that justice is done. RIP.

Never heard a speech from her that didn't move me.  Her son obviously paid the greatest price, but her spirit and fight on two fronts will never be forgotten.  RIP to an amazing woman.

Nice to see we've requested to The Premier League a minute silence on Sunday for Anne.

      Awaiting green light.

      Better had !

I was blubbin last night watching Sports Personality .
Sue Johnson when she ended with  Annes son saying     Mum.

Fitting tribute to a remarkable woman.
      RIP Anne.

It was indeed Billy and if Anne were here now she would be telling us to forget all the flannel and fight the good fight.
A long overdue award it is but let us not forget the horror and corruption that went before by the authorities who still obfuscate and confuse at any given opportunity, as illustrated by the IPPC in the reopened investigation of the tragedy with their apparent compulsion in every microscopic detail of the enquiry.
The BBC are an intrinsic part of the establishment Anne Williams spent 23 years fighting, if she were here to accept the award no doubt she would take her gloves off for the occasion and immediately replace them ready for the next battle, she knew her enemy did Anne.

May you rest in peace Anne but the fight goes on.

The angel of the City of Liverpool, never gave up and fought tooth and nail for justice for her son and the other 95 victims. R.I.P Anne!

Beautiful and very emotional tribute last night. As has been said around social media Alan Hansen has never said so much in the tears that ran down his face.

Was I the only one peed off that during the presentation of the award the best people the director could find to cut to in the audience were Moyes Giggs and Charlton?
