PFA Player/Young Player of the Year Awards
      Apr 20, 2013 11:23:41 am
PFA Player of the Year award shortlist:
Gareth Bale, Michael Carrick, Eden Hazard, Juan Mata, Luis SuƔrez and Robin van Persie

PFA Young Player of the Year award shortlist:
Gareth Bale, Christian Benteke, Eden Hazard, Romelu Lukaku, Danny Welbeck, Jack Wilshere

Reckon it will be Suarez and Bale winning the awards.

F**k knows how you can justify Welbeck and Carrick get on their respective lists, but it's not surprising.

I am okay with Carrick. He is controlling it for then. How on earth Welbeck got into that?

He has had a good season for his standards, but ahead of Michu?

Tbh has he had a better season than our own captain? Stevie has more goals and assists playing a similar role.

The worst one on that list for me is Jack Wilshere he hasnt even been playing for half the season and hasnt earned his spot on that list IMO. Welbeck is a shocker as well to have on that list, Raheem Sterling has arguably had more of an impact  this season than either Wilshere or Welbeck and not a sign of him shocking

All Welbeck does is run up his own ass, headless chicken of a striker, I mean 2 goals, going on that proviso Big Andy should be on the list, if its not Suarez and Bale/Benteke then you know its one big ass licking fix.

Welbeck has 2 goals all season and Wilshere hardly ever plays! Benteke hands down winner of that award IMO but doubt he will get the recognition because of who he plays for. Wouldn't be shocked at all if Welbeck was the winner because he's a Manc.

As for the other award, no other play more deserving of it than Suarez!

Once Stevie found his feet in Brendan's system he has been just as good as Carrick this season.

Gerrard's most consistent season for us in a few years.

Hate to praise a scum player but if he was spanish or italian then he'd be seen as a very very good player.

      I agree.

Carrick has been very good this season and I'll admit that even though I've been on record as saying he is sh*te.

What I'm saying though is that if he is on the list then Gerrard definitely should be as he has had a great season for us.

I think why Gerrard isn't on the list is that the role he has played this season is different to previous years and hence stats wise looked less productive when combined with another mediocre season by our club.

      http://www.whoscored.com/Blog/ztpnazelgkwgusnms74dng/Show/Player-Focus-Scorers-of-the-Most-Valuable-Goals

Meanwhile, without Luis Suarez's 18 goals in the Premier League this season, Liverpool would have only 8 fewer points. That is, despite the fact that he has only scored 1 goal fewer than van Persie, Suarez's goals have been worth 14 fewer points. The Uruguayan has scored goals in big wins over Swansea, Norwich, Sunderland, QPR and Fulham in the last couple of months, without which his side would have still won each game. He has scored goals in important draws with the likes of Arsenal, Chelsea, Everton and Man City, but the only game that Liverpool wouldn't have won if it wasn't for Suarez's goals was the 5-2 win at Norwich back in September. In other words, Suarez has only scored a match-winning goal in one league match all season. Of course, he is an incredibly gifted player who plays a crucial role for the Anfield club, but he doesn't step up to the plate with key goals quite as much as van Persie or Bale, and maybe, in the debate over who is the best Premier League player, that fact could play play a key role.

      Really surprising this.

Nah, some papers had the story running well before it was announced at the event.

If you're nominated for the POTY you should be removed from YPOTY contention. Silly for one player to win both.

Either way he was the third best player overall this season for me. Just so happens, like most awards, it's the candidate that sticks in your recent memory that gets the nod.

The only Player of the Year Award that I give two shits about is the Liverpool FC Player of the Year Award and Luis will have pissed that one with Raheem Sterling and Phillipe Coutinho battling it out for the Young Player of the Year Award.

If Luis had gained the most votes in last night's it would have got fixed so he didn't. He may have done for all we know but quite frankly I do not give a f**k.

Any dwindling interest I had in these type of awards vanished when Ryan Giggs was made to win one after somebody realised that he had never won one before in a season when he was average and there was plenty of outstanding performances ahead of him.

Also remember that the votes are counted in January, the middle month of the season. They should be getting counted after the FA Cup Final if you ask me but The FA probably have their winners in mind long before that.

If you didn't give a f**k about it before last night then after the public flogging Suarez has got from The FA, The Prime Minister, Gordon Taylor and the guests who booed his name at the awards last night then I'd hope you don't give a f**k about The FA's end of season party next year.

I'm sorry for Steven Gerrard when I say this but I hope with all of my f**king heart that England don't qualify for Brasil 2014, I really do.

And I'd have a f**king party if they did qualify and Uruguay, with a Luis Suarez goal, knocked them out early doors. I'd prefer it if they didn't even get involved at all though and Luis had a great World Cup, that would do the most damage to those spineless tw*ts..

Professional Footballers' Association chairman Clarke Carlisle believes his organisation made "a huge mistake" in hiring comedian Reginald D Hunter to perform at Sunday's awards in London.

The black American performer Hunter used the word 'nigger' during his performance at the PFA dinner at Grosvenor House hotel in Mayfair.
"I thought we made a huge mistake," Carlisle said.

"Using a comedian of his type was a gross error in judgement."

Tottenham's Gareth Bale was named the PFA Player of the Year and Young Player of the Year, while Arsenal Ladies midfielder Kim Little was named the inaugural PFA Women's Player of the Year at the annual awards evening.

Northampton defender Carlisle, who became PFA chairman in 2010, added: "I was embarrassed, sat up there throughout, and I want to apologise unreservedly to the footballing community that was present."

Carlisle revealed that some of the attendees had found Hunter's humour "highly offensive"

"This is the showpiece finale. I don't want to lambast Reginald Hunter - he's a comedian. He will take issues to the edge and beyond," he told BBC Radio 5 live.

"I thought [the content] was inappropriate because we are a union that have fought strongly against racism over years.

"Don't get it twisted. Comedy is subjective - some found him funny, some weren't offended, some weren't comfortable and some found it highly offensive.

"He also talked about Jews, Judaism and women - the tone of which I thought was wholly inappropriate."

Carlisle added: "My personal experience of him was on satirical shows. There was an expectation or hope he would cater for his audience. We need to address what kind of prepping we gave him beforehand."

A PFA statement published on Monday  said that Hunter had been informed that about 25% of the audience at the awards would be women and that the ages would range from 18 to 80. It added that the American was also told "swearing or any racist references were to be avoided".

Speaking before Carlisle's comments, PFA chief executive Gordon Taylor said Hunter might have been unaware that racial language had been an "emotive" subject in football in recent times.

"I think there were a few raised eyebrows over the comedian but that is the sort of thing you can't control. It was unfortunate. He is a professional comedian," Taylor said.
"It's a difficult subject in football and with him not being fully aware of how emotive it has been in football, that was probably a difficulty for him."

In February, Football Association ambassador Paul Elliott resigned from all roles representing the organisation and his role at anti-discrimination body Kick It Out following reports of a racism row.

A newspaper report alleged Elliott had a dispute by text message over a business venture with former Charlton player Richard Rufus. Elliott was reported to have used a derogatory term.

It was the PFA, not the FA from what I understand.

The whole thing was a joke anyway by the fact half the players on the list shouldn't have even be nominated.

      My apologies.

It was wrong anyway, very insensitive from their part. If it was the FA it would be even worse, a bloody joke!

Reg D Hunter is hilarious but whoever booked him clearly had not seen him perform before.  Comedy will always offend someone, that's why it's comedy.  Maybe they should have booked Jim Davidson.

And booing Luis - well that is just pathetic coming from fellow 'professionals.'  I didn't see any mention of the voting order, but nice to see Luis finished in front of Robin van penalities.

And I have to agree, how the feck did Wellbeck get on the list?  His holding the ball up skills?

Football Writers Player of the year:
      1 Gareth Bale
      2 Robin Van Persie
      3 Juan Mata

The rumour is that Suarez got 2 votes.

The hypocrites of HM Press at their finest, Rob Shepherd anyone (if your wondering he's a journalist who served time in prison for attacking a man in a wine bar) I think we can sleep better knowing that the press or our moral guardians.

For an award that Cantona won 12 months after his kung-foo kick. Classy.

Is the PL such a poor standard that Bale's season has been that great?

Bale scored 5 in his first 19. Michu was already on 13 by then. Just so happened that Bale has been on a great run towards the end of the season with a much better squad around him. I compared him to Michu as the Suarez dilemma complicated things.

Not taking anything away from Bale, just an observation.
