At fault for both of those goals yesterday - his usual trick of parrying the ball straight at an opposition player.

Yes its a huge fault of his and one he needs to sort out but he should also have a back 4 there protecting him or reacting first to his parrys, not asleep and flat footed. If Courtois made the same saves nothing surer then Terry or one of the defenders be in there hoofing it out or giving protection holding attackers off.

Its a complete shambles at the back

He's worth at least a goal start for whoever we play.

      Punching to distance is fine.
Parrying into the path of 3 awaiting Chelsea players...
Wait. It's almost like they knew...
      Nah. Couldn't be.

      You are right.
Impossible to bring in someone who is learning their trade and expect them to be put between the sticks for a club with CL ambitions let alone Premier League.
They were so obsessed to get the wage bill down.

Q : If that was the case why wasn't Johnson on his ludicrous money also shipped out ?

Under 30 at the time, still playing pretty well. (at the time BR rook over)
I also think BR rates him and wants some experience in the team.
My personal opinion is that he hasn't been as bad as people make out, not that he's been great by any means.

Mignolet really does look like a high quality backup.

We are missing a commanding force in goal.

If we were to have a quality keeper between the sticks and Mignolet as the 2nd choice....when it camed time for Migs to step up  I'd have no worries about his ability to do a job, unlike now when Jones is called to action and I have very little but "hope".

What I have noticed in recent weeks (and credit where it's due) is that when defending set pieces, we are being far more aggressive in clearing the six yard area before the set piece is taken.
It's a start, even though it lets opponents get a run on our defense.
It at least has the benefit of leaving space for Mignolet to attack, and to be fair he's been better at coming for the ball lately, even though I still tend to cringe a bit when he comes out to punch.
Not great, but better than before.

I honestly think that he shy's away from too much contact. One thing about Pepe...he had the build to put a hurt on opposing players in his box. Even when Mignolet comes out to try and catch, clear, punch, etc....he often bounces off the other players, inflicting less damage than he takes. Wouldn't hurt to have someone in there that would make the opponent think twice about making a hard challenge for the ball.

True, Reina is a F***ing beast of a bloke, but he was never as agile as Mignolet except when he was young and first came here.
De Gea is a stringbean though, and he does OK, so I think there's a bit of timidity with Mignolet, almost as if he's afraid of getting hurt.

I'm not sure that beefing up is the answer, unless he can keep the agility he has at the same time.
or maybe he can ask Grobelaar for some crazy pills.

      Laugh or cry ?

Anyone got a link of the last minute against Chelsea, perhaps we can create a little montage before our next defeat?

I've only seen two of your posts, but they're both laughing at our own players. Do you enjoy supporting Liverpool or are you just here to crack jokes?

Have to admit I was totally wrong about Mignolet. He is not better than Reina, he is barely better than Jones at the moment.

      Thanks for the post.

I wouldn't say he's the main problem, but he's one of the problems. A question I have, if we had Cech/Begovic in goal & Schneiderlin as our defensive midfielder, do people think that would make a huge difference?

You'd think to hear Brucie that Migs was playing by himself and defenders weren't responsible for helping to stop goals as well.

Cech and Schneiderlin in the side?

yea I think that would make a huge difference indeed.

      just my opinion.

if anything, the person this reflects most poorly on is Brad Jones.

I mean Mignolet is showing he is one of the worst keepers in the league.  And Jones STILL can't get a game.  How awful must Jones be!

really... do you think if we had, say, Fabianski on the bench, that Mignolet would still be in the XI?  of course not!

Or if we had.... kept Pepe?!?   Mignolet would have been on the bench ages ago.

But we have no one of quality on the bench.  Just Brad Jones.  Who falls asleep during games.
