Favourite Computer Game As A Kid

And, if you're as old as me, what was your computer?

      I first had a Amstrad CPC 464 then had a Commodore64.

Favourite game was probably Last Ninja 2. That stands out the most.

I had one of them Atari VCS things with the minty controllers.

Remember Donkey Kong on it and something about Tutankhamen.

Had a 48k Sinclair Spectrum, then the 128k one with the built in tape - remember Football Manager fondly.

Then moved on to the Amiga 500+ in 1991 and the exciting world of Lemmings and Lotus Turbo Challenge

Then I got an Amiga 1200 - which I remember was £399 (a fortune back then - and still now I suppose).

My favourites on here were Project X and this is where the whole Championship Manager (now FM) began.

After being a computer nerd I was a bit late getting in to consoles and missed the Master System, SNES thing, although I did play on a mates MegaDrive.

Since then at about the time I was becoming a student and banks start throwing money at you - I had a PlayStation (Tomb Raider), PlayStation 2 (Metal Gear Solid, Grand Theft Auto, Pro Evo), Nintendo 64 (GoldenEye - Super Mario 64), Sega Dreamcast (Waste of money) and now a PlayStation 3. I've got a PSP too but don't use it much.

      I am such a geek.

Oh, and City Software on Lime st? Remember that shop?

Was quite in to Frontier: Elite II on the Amiga.

Yeah RK I remember Bits and Bytes and definitely that one on Lime Street - fairly sure it used to be about £15 for a Spectrum game... Made me all reminiscent now.  Need to go on eBay!

Yeah, I'm sure they used to have a bargain section in the middle of the shop floor and the games were about a fiver?

Gonna have a look on Ebay myself to see how much the C64's are going for. Still got loads of games in the loft!  ;)

Rampage was a brilliant game which kept me occupied for ages!

Upon finding these pics, I found a newer version which I might buy for a laugh!

Then there's the best game I've ever played! Final Fantasy 7! I still haven't finished it yet (similarto your reason Court, I simply don't want to!)

      Love it! 8)

First computer was a Sinclair ZX81,
Technical Specifications: (taken directly from the Operating Supplement)

          * Depth: 167 mm (6.32 in)
          * Height: 40 mm (1.57 in)
          * Weight: 350 grams (12.15 oz)
          * CPU: Z80Z at 3.25 MHz
          * ROM: Containing 8k BASIC interpreter
          * RAM: 1K byte internal, externally expandable to 16K bytes
      Display:
          24 lines x 32 characters (text)
          64 x 44 pixels in graphics mode

      then an Apple II.....

then the old trusty Commodore 64 with the walk thru games, no graphics...
I can still remember looking in total AWE the first time I saw a colour screen at the University on an excursion...
and getting excited when I upgraded my hard drive to 10meg and ram from 4 to 8meg, ah the power...
most of the games I had were downloaded from a buliten board (pre world wide web, no graphcs)
      but I digress....

the best game without a doubt would have to be Doom (the original)
this was just so far ahead of anything else for its generation,
the first "First person shooter" game,
      first with "3D Graphic's"etc etc....
first with "multiplayer networking" etc etc....

I still have my first copy of it on "10 inch floppy disks" (but cant get a 10 inch floppy drive anywhere...)
as well as the " 5 1/4 inch" version....

so, to sum up my distracted waffle, DOOM....!!

Noticed on another thread people ralking about their old computers and comsoles, so I thought I'd give this thread a bump for people who hadn't seen it! :D

For me, the first computer I had was a Spectrum 48K, and it's still the one I probably had the most fun out of! :D The games (on cassette - easy to copy!) were often utterly insane and completely impossible. Great ones were of course Manic Miner, Jet Set Willy, Rainbow Isla, nds, SKooldaze, Dynamite Dan, all the Dizzy games, all the Monty Mole games... Here's a link to the top 100 games ever for the Speccy, for those who want to reminice :D:

      http://www.worldofspectrum.org/ystop100.html

After that, had a Commodore Amiga A500+ or something like that! ;) After the Speccy this was like having an arcade machine in your living room! :D Full colour, proper sound, "quick loading" disks, and (grat stuff!) still easy to copy games! Loads of brill games there too: Blood Money, Speedball 2, Kick Off 2, Sensible Soccer, Lotus Turbo Challenge, Alien Breed, Flashback, Syndicate... Top 100 here:

      http://www.warblade.as/feature01.html

Then had a Playstation 1 and 2, too many great games to list, though a big up to the Resident Evil saga of games, still going strong, and the Final Fantasy saga too! CRK is right, FF7 is one of the best games EVER!

Now I've got the Nintendo Wii, and it's alright I suppose! :D

Sensible Soccer was superb.  I bought one of those arcade sticks that you just plug in to your tele with it on and it was superb.

Cannon Fodder was another Amiga favourite of mine.

Smackdown! 1 was a classic at the time, I've gone off wrestling since (thankfully) but that game was boss. Graphics absoloutely awful looking back.

That game kicked arse so much! :D I was the one on it, I used to go King and use the never ending grapple combo. Once you landed that it was game over! :D

I always made my own. A big 7ft monster, who would do top rope moves as well! ;D

Out of the other wrestlers though, it had to be Kane! What a monster he was! Wasn't happy when they took his mask off though. Silly idea that! For a more well rounded fight though, The Rock was always a winner!

Hooray, someone finally mentioned Chuckie Egg on the speccie, loved that as well as Paperboy, Space Raiders, and some of ocean's games like Robocop, only problem being it took years to load them up. Also anyone remember the olympics game, twatting your keys on your keyboard dead hard. Also as well as Footie manager, don't forget Emlyn Hughes's International Soccer.

Remember Italia 90 on the master system, boss pens!

On the Megadrive, I used to love the Desert Strike series of games, In an apache helicopter twatting the sh*t out of Iraqi's in the original, then moving on to defeat russians, terrorists and all sorts.

Anyone remember the footie game on the arcades, was either countries or European teams such as Milan and Madrid! Also loved Shadow Fighterm or something like that on the arcade. And also the Wrestling Royal Rumble arcade game, I once spent 2 hours playing it in Hastings and won the f**ker.

I remember I had an olyimpic type one for my commodore 64 called Daily Thompsons Decathlon  :lmao: That was made by Ocean - they made some boss games them.

And the shop by our school used to have two arcade machines in it. One of them was Shadow Warriors!! Is that the one you mean? Loved that game! Used to nearly be a fight every morning trying to get on the arcade machine and you would nearly always be late for school. Happy days!

Yep - I remember there were two or three keys on my keyboard that stopped working completely after a while! :D Lucky most games had the "redefine keys" option else I'd have been buggered! All that because of the bloody 100m! And wasn't the 110m hurdles difficult? Just get a bit of speed up and then you had to hit another sodding key to jump, I couldn't do it at all! :D

Ocean were the ones who made the same game on the Speccy I think! There were loads of good games producers that have disappeared since...  :'(

Yeah that's right mate. I had a C64 and one of my mates had a Speccy and we had a good few of the same games on Ocean.

Yes!! Daley Thompsons Decathlon was the game I was thinking of - and you're probably right about Shadow Warriors! Think i first played that arcade on holiday in Spain when I was about 14 in some French bar we used to go to - and have a few sneaky shorts of pernod with kiwi fruit - used to love that drink!!

I had Kick Off 2, don't know if it was the same? It was brilliant, played it for hours! ;D

The keepers were almost impossible to beat though, sometimes when they dived to save the ball they finished near the corner flag!  :o

I remember Kick Off 2 being quite good as well but yes, the keepers were tough to beat. I had the bending outswinging shot in Kick Off downpat, and would bury any keeper. Hell of a lot of fun. I think they released a part 3 called Goal, but with horizontal view. Wasn't as good as the others.

Brings back memories of Microprose Soccer. Not a good game by any stretch of the imagination but had funny moments like banana kicks bending back all the way back past your body and sound effects like thunder and loud slide tackles! Hilarious.

I still had my Amiga when my younger brother got his Playstation for christmas. It could have been 1995?? I enjoyed playing Tekken? and Destruction Derby. I was never a console fan really. I never had a SNES or Megadrive etc, always computers from the C64, Atari STE and Amiga! Ive got Die Hard 2 on the Amiga, its a shoot em up !! But when it came to shoot em ups I was addicted to Turrican II.

Same! Still have it at home. Can't understand Red Alert 3, though. Don't know which weapons and units are good.
Also, bigV stated. Age of Empires. Always fancied war-type of games. What a waste though, that War of the Ring wasn't suitable for my PC.

Also have Transport Tycoon right now. Something similar to Zoo Tycoon or Seaworld Tycoon. What was that game call again? Sim City? I rememebered playing Sim Hospital, Sim Park and Sim Town.

And of course, Pokemon Red on the game boy and Digimon World on the Playstation One.

My first system was an Atari . I remember games like River Raid (1&2) , California Games , Pele's Soccer , Pitfall , Time Pilot , Track n Field and the likes . Wow i feel old

First game I spent any siginificant time on was probably Manic Miner on the Spectrum 48k.
I then got an Amiga 500+ and loved Sensible World of Soccer.

Ha ha , i remember way back in the day , me next door neighbour had a Commodore 64 . you would load the tape into it and while you were waitin for it to load you could go for a ride to the shops or have a kick around , only to come back to an error message at 98 or 99 % .
It was the same on the early Sinclair Spectrums. On the game Double Dragon, you had to load the game using the tape player, stop it at just the right time then load each level. If you failed to stop the tape quick enough on any level, it was impossible to load any further so that was it, game over!
