      Will Luis break the record?
      Dec 20, 2013 01:56:51 am
The current record for premier league goals in a season is 34 shared by Shearer and Cole (with 42 games a season due to being 22 teams in the league). For a 38 game season the spoils are shared with Shearer and Ronaldo at 31 a piece.

Luis' averaging 1.55 goals a game, and with the 22 remaining fixtures of the season he would get to 34 at his current pace. Seeming as he missed the first 5 games of the season, its an even more amazing feat.

I can see him doing it and heading past 35, hes smashing everyone apart. He's in my opinion, on form, the best player in the world right now.

Do you think he'll make it?

If he maintains this form of his and avoids injury/suspension, I can't see why not. 1.55 x the remaining 22 games would equal 34 goals, adding on the 17 he already has. At this rate he'd end up on 51 goals for this campaign. Bit unlikely he'd score THAT many though.

No, he'll be out of the club in January.

Kidding ;) Had to say it before someone comes in here trying to bring the rest down.

Absolutely! It just feels like he is going to score every game. If he beats the record of 34 goals (in what would be 9 less games) he will be remembered as one of the greatest in the PL, regardless if he leaves next summer.

Sixteen(?) goals down, nineteen(?) to go (to break the record), in twenty-two games - I don't want to put the blink on him but it's a real possibility.

Suarez will surely be the PK taker until Gerrard returns.  So, he may nick 1 or 2 that way.  Injury-free/avoid suspension and he'll have a good chance.

Course he will ff's, he is the messiah, given that we genuinely get better in the second half of a season it stands to reason he will too,
1.5 goals pg is a fantastic return for a striker at any level, just need to hope he stays fit & healthy,

I'm not sure if it's just me but he genuinely looks very happy to be here,
Is it possible that any inhibitions he had about playing for LFC have gone from his mind, or am I just imagining things, obviously cementing a CL spot will reinforce our hopes of keeping him here.

      Yeah, I'd go for 36 or 37.

IF he doesn't chew john terrys nads off in a fit of pique.

If he stays injury free then why not?

Brendan pumped up Sturridge to get 30 ...now to be adjusted.

Im sure Brendan Stevie and the team will get behind Luis if he is closing on it and make sure he gets the ball and the chances.

      Another Red record.

...and we were going to get knocked of OUR perch ?

Aspas is our number 9. Give him a fair crack before writing him off. He had a injury and is behind two of the best three strikers in the league, plus a new league altogether.

      Wrong thread. Apologies.

I was actually soo baked when i wrote this last night. I thought I'd had an epiphany when i realised he'll smash the record.

Re-reading this now, cant believe I didn't incorporate the goals hes already scored. He's on track for smashing past 45!

Surely it's not possible to attack that which does not exist?!

And regarding the goals, yeah he's more than capable but I don't think he will. It will be Luis and Dan sharing the spoils when Dan is back up and running again.

I had a tenner on him scoring 30 or more last year in all competitions. SOme took the bet, but dont know if the forum kitty ever received the money ;)

Now, he is on 17 goals, with 22 games to go. He needs 17 goals. Thats 0.77 goals a game.

He cant possibly mantain his current ratio (please let me be wrong), but a 0.77 in the remaining fixtures seems quite possible.

He will smash the 38 game league record by the end of Feb. He will break the other one by mid March

Have to agree with this.  There is no way he can continue on scoring at the rate he is.  Every great CF hits a dry spell every now and then, and Luis will have one at some point this season.  I just hope that Danny is back in the team by then and is able to carry the load when Luis's form dips a little.

The record in a 38 game season is 31 goals shared by:

Shearer - take away his 3 penalties makes 28. These came in 35 games making a ratio of 0.89

Ronaldo - take away his 4 penalties makes 27. This came in 34 games making a ratio of 0.91.

Suarez is currently on 19 goals in 12 games making a ratio of 1.58. This means he needs 13 goals in remaining 21 games to beat 38 game season record (ratio of 0.62).
And more realistic 16 goals to beat record in a 42 game season (ratio of 0.76).
Without taking a single penalty... Different class!!

Quite right, sorry about such late reply but only just joined Forums. Aspas has look of young Ian St John about him: gobby, aggressive little b*stard. He has a big future with the club once he can get past the injuries all Continental players are prone to in the first 12 months of playing in the Premier League.
