      Pre-Match Topic: Liverpool v Oldham - 5th Jan at 3pm (FA Cup)
      Jan 01, 2014 05:31:39 pm
After a solid 2-0 win against Hull, Liverpool host Oldham at Anfield looking to get into the fourth round of the F.A Cup.

I would expect changes for this game and can see this side being out there on Sunday:

      Jones

      Kelly
      Toure
      Ilori
      Smith

      Gerrard (c)
      Rossiter

      Moses
      Alberto
      Ibe

      Aspas

Subs: Ward; Lloyd Jones, Cissokho; Henderson; Sterling, Suarez, Yesil.

Currently injured we have: Sturridge, Sakho, Allen, Enrique, Coates and possibly Johnson after coming off early in the second half against Hull.

Oldham have just lost 2-1 to Shrewsbury at home and this was their line up for the game:

      4-4-2

      Oxley

      Brown
      Kusunga
      Tarkowski
      Grounds

      Dayton
      Smith
      Mellor
      Petrasso

      Rooney
      Clarke-Harris

I don't know to much about Oldham myself, but Adam Rooney is a big physical striker who could cause us problems.

It's hard to predict a score as we aren't sure weather BR will be cautious with his line up or go for a different 11 and give some players a rest e.g. Skrtel, Lucas.

      Good luck lads, YNWA.

Yes agree mostly with the line up but given how much they roughed up the likes of coates last time you wonder if Agger or Cissokho should start. Both Ilori and Smith together would be a risk. Would be good to take Gerrard off at 60 minutes and neither Cissokho nor Agger need much of a rest. Johnson, Skrtel, Hendo, Coutinho, Suarez and Sterling should not feature at all unless it's heading for a replay..

Agree with everything you've said Yacster, I was going to pick both Agger and Cissokho just so we had that solid, strong back line. But my 'FIFA' side came out and went for 11 changes.

Wouldn't be surprised to see Ilori go on loan between now and Sunday as Rodgers said he would be loan out in this transfer window.

      Maybe a back line of:

      Kelly Toure Agger Cissokho

      Would be better for us.

I think a few of our younger players and Suarez need a rest, while a few of our squad players need a game, so I have gone for a decent team (as I want a cup run) but brought a few of our walking wounded and squad players in.

                                  Mignolet

      Toure           Skrtel             Agger          Flanagan/Cissohko

                     Henderson   Lucas   Gerrard

                                    Albert

                    Moses                  Aspas

Would be great if Sturridge could be on the bench for this one.

Should be a run of the mill win, but in the cup....you never know. Going for a comfortable 2-0 Aspas and Gerrard getting the goals.

I read only 2 weeks ago Yesil has broken his cruciate ligaments again, so safe to say he wont be on the bench!

Is Adam Rooney the "English Drogba" who destroyed us last year?

I would definitely not be starting Coutinho for this one. Surely it's clear for all to see that the boy needs a rest. Alberto to start as the playmaker in his place.

Not sure if Coutinho needs a rest, he has only just come back from injury but he should not be needed for this tie and it is an ideal opportunity for some of the fringe players to get a full start Aspas, Alberto, Moses etc

I don't agree with this at all, especially Smith and Rossiter. We should field our strongest line up possible and when the game is (hopefully) won, then start taking the more important players off. We need to develop a win streak and rotating the team isn't going to build momentum because it wont be our usual players as such. We need our confidence as high as we can possibly get it and so what if it's just Oldham, the likes of Suarez and co will still be boosted by a win, scoring goals etc.

Also we only have this cup competition to play for so I want us to damn well put our mark on it and hopefully win it. The way we got twatted by Oldham last year shows we can't afford to go resting players for youngsters or the players that barely play because it will just happen again.

Also if Jones is in goal I will be pissed off as hell because he is an absolute liability!

Strong line up, get a good lead and start taking the important players off after an hour or so!!

It's clear a few lads need some rest and it would be very surprising if Coutinho and Coutinho aren't rested to the bench. I don't think Rodger s will make quite as many changes as some of you have suggested and I would expect players like Henderson and Sterling to Get another start. This certainly isn't a game to be giving someone like Ilori a first run out. Unfortunately Ibe is out injured isn't he but perhaps there will be an opportunity for young Rossiter to be on the bench again and perhaps even a start if Brendan thinks he's ready. Up front is a worry because we only have two proper forwards at the club and there is no one jumping put at youth level who could do the job.

      I would go with:

      Toure.         Skrtel.        Agger.         Cissoko

                            Lucas.      Henderson or Stevie

                                   Alberto
        Sterling.                                         Moses
                                     Aspas

Some crazy teams been picked there. These knocked us out last season and they knocked us out because fringe players fooked up

We need to rest players but not as many as some suggest. Stick with the likes of Aspas, rest Hendo and Sterling

I wouldn't even include Coutinho in the squad. The lad clearly needs a rest physically and most certainly mentally.

Would field a 2nd XI: Jones, Kelly, Toure, Agger, Cissokho, Gerrard, Rossiter, Alberto, Moses, Sterling, Aspas.

Easily more than enough quality to hump Oldham

We well and truly owe this lot after last year. So it would be great if our full strength side showed them what we're really like.

Get it won in half an hour and show no mercy after half time. Do that and we should top the 5 we managed two years ago.

this is the game where i believe we will miss sakho's presence. oldham got us last year due to a big and powerful centre forward.  they will likelly try to do it again.  if it is skrtel and agger again... i hope they have learned from their mistakes

we are faster play an even more direct form of football this year so i hope that sees us through to the next round

As we only have the league and F.A.Cup  to go for I think we should play our strongest 11 from the kick off. Secure the match and by all means bring on the subs. I am looking for a big win against Oldham so don't let me down REDS.
