Vauxhall new sponsorship with Liverpool FC

British car company takes over sponsorship from Chevrolet

Vauxhall has entered into a partnership with Britain’s most successful football club, Liverpool FC, replacing former automotive partner and fellow GM subsidiary Chevrolet. The arrangement starts with the Liverpool vs Arsenal match on 8th February 2014.

Whether Liverpool star players such as Luis Suarez, Steven Gerrard and Daniel Sturridge turn up for training at Melwood in Vauxhalls remains to be seen, but the deal will see Liverpool staff use Vauxhall cars such as the Vauxhall Astra, built just 18 miles away from Liverpool’s Anfield ground in Ellesmere Port on Merseyside.

Vauxhall already has a proud history of successful football sponsorship, being partners of the four home nation Football Associations: England, Wales, Northern Ireland and Scotland.

Vauxhall managing director, Duncan Aldred, said: “This exciting new sponsorship will undoubtedly benefit from the experience we have gained in international football and we look forward to the prospect of a partnership with such an iconic club as Liverpool FC.”

Liverpool FC Chief executive, Ian Ayre, said: “We are delighted to welcome Vauxhall on board as a partner of Liverpool FC. They have highly credible football credentials and a reputation for engaging sponsorship activation.”

Meanwhile, Chevrolet’s shirt sponsorship of rival Manchester United starting from next season is still going ahead in spite of the company’s withdrawal from the European market.

Good move again by the marketing team.

How about we start signing players instead?!

Also, am I right in thinking Vauxhall have seen their income massively drop in the last 2 years?

It would be nice to see Ayre celebrating the signing of a top footballer occasionally, rather than just corporate sponsors.

Still, more money in the bank is not to be sneezed at, maybe one day they will spend a little of it on players

Sorry, just feeling a little bitter today :(

Look at that list of sponsors associated with the club and we still cant fork out that little bit more for targets. Best chance in years to win the league let alone get top 4 and at the minute they are wasting time signing 2 sponsorship deals in January rather than 2 players! Beggars belief really

If I'm not mistaken they have a factory over in Ellesmere Port where loads of jobs got axed?

Regardless of the Salah saga, it's a great move by the marketing team considering Chevrolet have dropped out the European market and Vauxhall are also the sponsors of the British national teams (England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland).

It does seem like FSG see Liverpool Football Club as some sort of money making business.

Then they're going about it in the most stupid way imaginable. Their investment would make more money being in the Champion's League with all the international advertising and sponsorship that brings rather than languishing in the doldrums of the alsorans. The more money LFC makes, the more money they do.

Not necessarily, United for example, they started off getting as many sponsors as they could sponsoring them in the early 90's if I'm not mistaken. Getting sponsored is decent but I'd rather we invest in the team than finding potential sponsors. As Barrett said on Twitter another sponsor is being announced on Monday.

Ayre with the boss of Vauxhall and the signiture of LFC 'You'll Never Walk Alone'... I wonder if either have owned a Vauxhall, I did, it was an Astra and I walked alone a hell of a lot with that peice of sh*t...

Yes, more money in to the club etc etc - but it means nothing if we fail on the pitch season after season... Its been 4 long years in the champs league, but on the plus side Vauxhall and Dunkin are with us as corperate sponsors...

And United are facing huge financial losses this year if they have to qualify for the Europea league. Their lucrative tour of America will be cut short as a result. They also recently just dropped to fourth in the money league with PSG and City likely to over take them in the next couple of years. The reason for this is mismangement of their club through under investment in the team in recent years. Fergie knew this and took his pay off and ran. The best Sponsors don't tend to hang around and you struggle to find the best of them if your not successful. We could be doing a lot better than Vaxhaul if we where competing in the highest teirs of our own league and Europe.

They never dropped to fourth because of lack of results. PSG and City are owned by Arabic oil Sheikhs whereas United aren't and neither are we.

They never dropped to fourth because of lack of results. PSG and City are owned by Arabic oil Sheikhs whereas United aren't and neither are we.

The Arabs and Sheikhs are investing in their teams. The yanks aren't - neither ours nor theirs. Investment in the team brings success on the field. Success on the field attacts financial investment through sponsorship and advertising (i.e. people want to be associated with your brand). United have been in decline for some time because they haven't invested in their team. They're paying the price for it now. If the current trend continues and they finish outside of a European position, they will face a significant hit on their revenue for this year. That will have a knock on effect on their ability to invest in their team which will be a downward spiral resulting in sponsors leaving them.

This is the position we have found ourselves in for years. Lack of Champion's league football has resulted in a lack of top tier sporship and advertising, lack of revenues from the competition, lack of attractiveness to players. Investment in our team in order to put us back in the CL would bring money we could reinvest back in to the team, leading to more success and more profits. More profits mean larger dividends for shareholders. It's simply not good business sense at a corporate level to not invest in your business. Expand or die is a basic tennant of corporate business. FSG run Liverpool more like an SME.

Looks like the owners are more interested in getting more sponsors than charting our way back to the top. They have simply wasted a lot of our time. Just take a look at what happened to their buy young and with resell value players? They got loaned out as soon as they arrived.

Are the signing of the players just to make us happy and shut us up temporarily when they knew too well the players will not be good enough to represent us. I'm fed-up, clubs above and below us are signing marque players and we are still analyzing the price of marque players until situation became paralyse.
