      Best pre-season friendlies since?
      Jun 07, 2014 12:35:56 am
No offence to some of the teams we have played in recent years but

(Preston aside - which is in essence a reserve game)

      AS Roma
      Olympiacos
      Man City
      AC Milan
      Borussia Dortmund

      What a cracking line up.

We'll be proper disappointed when the Champions League draw has been done!!

Anyone remember a more impressive pre-season fixture list?

Wow, that's really a test, very useful practice for the CL. Couldn't really have a better mix.

Maybe the CL draw had been made and no one told us,

      AS Roma, Olympiakos, group stage,
Man City Q final, AC Milan semi final,
      Borussia Dortmund Final,

      Have we missed it. ?

All those clubs for pre-season friendlies...that's progression for you, oh yeah forgot we got PNE to...perhaps not then ?

I always wondered about some of our pre season games. Ok playing Crewe or Wrexham is fine 1st game out helps them make some money. Can do a degree understand the trips to the states or Thailand for the fanbase etc

But I have always been baffled by the lack of major opponents nearer the start of the season. Proper games to bring on match fitness, especially at Anfield

Definitely the best looking friendlies I've seen in my time with LFC. There's a high chance the Dortmund game will be tougher over the 90 then our opening game of the season, if it were a promoted/lesser side at home at least.

Roma usually give our kids a good battle, we'd expect to put a few past Olympiakos, the games against City and Milan will be cracking affairs.

I don't expect us to keep clean sheets almost the entire time like last season (think all but the Celtic game were victories and clean sheets?), will be interesting if we have a new keeper to replace Jones in second spot and he's given a few halves in that mini-tournament in the USA.
