He seemed to lack a lot of sharpness when first playing at the start of the season, so much so that his touch was poor, but thankfully, sharpness was all it was - his ball control and first touch is actually very good. Would be great to see him get a long run in the starting eleven.

He also got an injury in pre-season which put him back in terms of fitness.

MOTM today. Markovic was outstanding. Maybe a tad lucky on his goal, but he should have won us a penalty, hit the bar on a wonder volley, and was overall defensively sound. I love the way he can just turn on the jets at a moments notice and blow past players.

Am I the only one here who still hasn't been impressed by him as of yet?

I still see a lack of confidence which is understandable as he's being played out of position and it's his first season in the PL, though I have yet to see flashes of brilliance and the flair and skill an attacking player should have. Still unsure on him.

He wasn't too shabby today   ;)

Great to see him start to do well here. Hope it continues. Still has a tendency to breeze past players, then overrun the ball and lose possession, but I hope that is cut out of his game in time.

Although it's still hard to believe that this is the same player who was eliminated with Partizan Belgrade at home to Shamrock Rovers in the UEFA Cup group playoffs in 2011.

Glad to see him proving me and a lot of others wrong.

Persisstant for the goal and fantastic technique for that volley.

Benfica know a thing or two about good players so I'm much less concerned buying highly rated players from clubs like Benfica or Ajax than I am Southamton or Swansea.

The best I've seen of him to date.

Hopefully now that he's injury free, he'll really show us why he's been so supposedly highly regarded. Just got to give him and the likes of Can time to bed in.

He's coming on in leaps and bounds this kid. I was critical of him earlier in the season, was completely underwhelmed but he has been superb since coming back from the wilderness and he really looks a prospect now doesn't he. Big, strong, skilful and perhaps the most impressive for me has been his workrate defensively, he ran his ass off yesterday. Could be one of our most important players in the 2nd half of the season.

The 3 things I love most about this lad:

      1.  His ability to run at speed with the ball - he keeps such close control of the ball, almost like its glued to his foot.  He also has unbelievable balance, and his ability to change pace and direction is incredible!

      2.  He is surprisingly good at defending - he is stronger than he looks, he follows his mark/runner well, and he is very persistent about harrying the opposition.

      3.  He keeps it simple - most of the time he chooses the smart pass, plays 2 touch footie, and keeps the ball moving quickly.  He is capable of doing the spectacular, but most of the time he plays with an intelligence, maturity, and confidence that belies his age.
