That was some sad times and a good demonstration of how far we've come I suppose.

So assuming Coates, Lucas, Assaidi, Suso, Borini are off..

      Goalkeepers:
      Mignolet, Jones

      Defenders:
Manquillo, Flanagan, Johnson, Lovren, Skrtel, Sakho, Toure, Moreno, Enrique

      Midfielders:
Gerrard, Can, Allen, Coutinho, Henderson, Lallana, Sterling, Markovic

      Strikers:
      Sturridge, Balotelli, Lambert

Have I missed anyone? Seems a fairly small squad, but with much talent nonetheless. This would be ideal but if Borini leaves, shouldn't we ought to find a young up and coming attacker? We could also do with another GK which apparently Valdez is the guy to come in.

I suppose we have Origi. I think most would take Valdez. Happy days lads.

So with the window closed we can officially say that Liverpool has the youngest squad in the Premier League.
Joint youngest, with Newcastle, at 25.6 years.
Squad of 25. We only need to register 20 as Over 21.
So no worries about squad restrictions.
If Borini had left it would be 19 Over 21 players.

Southampton have the smallest squad, with 22 players.
When you take out the two U21 players that leaves 20 Over 21.

So Liverpool come into the season with the joint youngest and joint smallest squads in the League.
Trust firmly placed in youth, with Sterling, Suso, Markovic, Can & Manquillo. (All Under 21)
At this stage we can probably say that it is by design.

So what can you win with kids?

      GKs
      Mignolet, Jones, Ward

      Defenders
Johnson, Manquillo, Lovren, Skrtel, Toure, Sakho, Enrique, Moreno, Flanagan

      Center-mid
      Stevie, Can, Hendo, Allen, Lucas

      Attacking-mid/Wingers
      Coutinho, Markovic, Lallana, Suso

      Strikers
      Sturridge, Lambert, Mario, Borini

That's 25! and our best player is U-21, so doesn't have to been part of the list.  :)

      Lets say our primary-XI is
      Mario-Sturridge
      Sterling
      Lallana-Henderson
      Stevie
      Moreno-Sakho-Lovren-Manquillo
      Migs

and the bench would be Jones, Coutinho, Markovic, Lambert, Allen, Skrtel, Flanagan

Borini, Suso, Lucas, Enrique, Toure, Johnson and Ward are going to out of the squad for longer periods

      GKs
Mignolet, Jones, Ward (Is it compulsory to register 3?)

      Defenders
Johnson, Manquillo, Lovren, Skrtel, Toure, Sakho, Enrique, Moreno, Flanagan

      Center-mid
      Stevie, Can, Hendo, Allen, Lucas

      Attacking-mid/Wingers
      Coutinho, Markovic, Lallana, Suso, Sterling

      Strikers
      Sturridge, Lambert, Mario, Borini

      Lets say our primary-XI is

      Mario-Sturridge
      Sterling
      Lallana-Henderson
      Stevie
      Moreno-Sakho-Lovren-Manquillo
      Migs
and the bench would be Jones, Coutinho, Markovic, Lambert, Allen, Can, Skrtel

Borini, Suso, Lucas, Enrique, Toure, Flano and Johnson are going to out of the squad for longer periods. Although they might make it in cup games and as substitutes now & then when the core squad has injuries

I'm happy with the squad posted above, a better keeper than Jones maybe and another CM and we can challenge anyone under Brendan.
Pic put up by King Kenny made me shudder!!

I know in 2013 the registration deadline for the CL squad was September 2 or 3 - so has that passed this season? If so, we wouldn't be able to use Valdes in that competition this season if he were to sign.

That's not a bad squad at all.  Add Valdes when he eventually signs and we're good to go till January.

I don't see any reason we will need to add in January, barring injuries or exits. I think we have the deepest squad, in terms of cover and quality, that we have had in a long long time. If Borini and/or Lucas leave in January then I'd expect some more additions though.

      Definitely.

I think we've probably done most of the clearing out and rebuilding.
This is probably the biggest turnover of players to be had for awhile.
Like for like replacements in the next few windows depending on who leaves.

Just because we've basically added a whole new 11 to the squad doesn't mean we rest on our laurels mate, there's always a need to improve/replace players as and when better options come available  ;)

While I agree with that, after 10 additions in this window (if Valdea joins that is) I don't see any reason to unsettle the squad. I honestly believe we have the perfect balance right now. I agree with Wenger that the January window is a bit pointless and, if you have to start rebuilding you're squad at that stage, then it's not a good sign. As I said earlier, if we see some departures then I won't be opposed to replacing upgrading them.

I'm not talking about rebuilding the squad mate as you said if we lose players either through transfers or injury they need replacing.

However if we have the chance to add another quality player then we should do our best to get them   xxxxx:action-smiley-065:

We are always going to have players leaving whether through retirement, transfers out or injuries...we always need layers with the u-18, u-21 and younger 1st team transfers constantly filling the cupboards. High quality younger players/youth constantly pushing those above.

This window has allowed us to solidify the starting XI and they're back-ups..now we can push forward  to a new generation of the Sterling's, Ibe's, Origi's who will become the next generation of players.
