Balotelli miss out on Italy team. Conte decided not to include him. Better for us.

Not good enough to be in LFC starting XI. Missed 4 goal chances, unnecessary fouls. Suarez would have scored almost 3 out of these 4..

      Wum.

He was brilliant, worked as hard as anyone on the pitch. Made things happen, his hold up play was brilliant and he was a threat by just being around there defense which allowed Sturridge time on the ball, which we benefited from (the first goal).

Could have scored a couple goals but his work ethich was to be admired, if he keeps that up, he will be great for us because it is only a matter of time before he finds his shooting boots again.

Maybe living in Italy I can be biased against him, watching him playing in AC Milan. He scored a good couple of goals, but he didn't work for the team. I'll give him time..

His not playing for AC Milan is he, he is playing for us. And today he worked his socks off for the team.

However, I mean Coutinho and Markovic could have replaced him in a different type of team, my comment wasn't so bad as it seemed

We scored three goals while Mario was playing so why would we replace him in a front line that clearly works? Your comment was every bit as bad as it seemed and worse.

But I can't see him having a little part in any of our goals today

First competitive match in a new team and some expect Mario to pick up from where Suarez left of.

With a couple of runs in games Mario is going to be exceptional for us and a vital cog in a well drilled machine.

I was impressed by Mario's work rate today. I think that's one of his question marks about playing in Brendan's system. He had something like 9 touches in our defensive third -- more than he had in an entire season for AC Milan. Only one game for Balotelli, though, so let's not read too much into his game today either way. Lovely backheels today, though!

Tell you what, we'll put you upfront then shall we?

Thought he was good today. Probably should of scored at least one of his chances but overall a strong debut. We saw flashes of what he can do with Sturridge, it will only get better with more game time (& match fitness).

Can't wait to see him run out at Anfield! He'll love it.

I know! Funny too because the comment mentioned Mario missing 4 chances. Remember how many Suarez was missing in his first year?

He's hardly had any training since coming back from the world cup, it was his debut and all eyes were on him. It was a fabulous display by the lad, his movement with Sturridge was fantastic.

He will give us so much this season if he keeps the same attitude. I have no doubt he will score 20+ this year for us if he does keep that attitude, delighted with him today, well played Mario!!

There were 3 things that happened with him today that made me happy that we signed him after being skeptical.

      1. He was constantly working back to help the likes of Manquillo and Moreno (a number of times winning possession back)
      2. When Sturridge crossed the ball he was in the box to head the ball at goal
      3. When he held the ball up amazingly well and was able to wait in possession for a team mate to attack the other end of the pitch

I thought he did ok out there didn't he. I wouldn't get too carried away by his work rate but he out in a good shift with and without the ball. Still looks a couple of full games short of match sharpness for me but he put himself about, had a few nice touches and I quite liked his movement

He was Super Solid Mario today. Put in a decent shift, hopefully when he's fitter he will bury the chances that came his way today.
