We know Klopp is frustrated with the GK situation. So why not let Ward have a go with his old club? He practiced against them and knows them better our other two doormen. How much worse could he be?

I can only surmise that either Ward is worse than Karius or Migs, which surely just cannot be true, or Klopp for some reason really doesn't like Ward, same as he didn't like Sakho, perhaps Ward doesn't kiss Klopp's arse enough or shies away from hugs.

Liverpool boss Jürgen Klopp set to give Danny Ward opportunity to be first-choice goalkeeper

Jürgen Klopp is ready to give Danny Ward an opportunity to prove he can become Liverpool's first-choice goalkeeper.

Klopp has been hugely impressed with Ward since the squad reconvened for pre-season training at the start of the month.

And with Loris Karius continuing to struggle in the wake of his Champions League final nightmare, Ward is now poised to be given an extended chance during pre-season.

Reds boss Klopp has been impressed with the attitude of the 25-year-old Wales international, who is understood to have raised his levels at Melwood in recent weeks.

Now Ward could have forced his way into the box seat between the sticks as the countdown continues to the start of the Premier League season.

Karius has been under intense scrutiny since his two errors during the Champions League final defeat to Real Madrid in May, with it later emerging he had suffered concussion during the game.

The German appeared nervous during Liverpool's opening pre-season friendly at Chester City last weekend, and was responsible for a poor error in conceding a goal in the 3-2 win at Tranmere Rovers on Tuesday.

By comparison, Ward was a steady influence during his 45-minute appearances in both games, and is now poised to be given increased game time over the coming weeks.

Liverpool continue their preparations at Bury on Saturday before a trip to Blackburn Rovers the following Thursday.

The Reds then fly out for their tour of the United States where they will face Borussia Dortmund, Manchester City and Manchester United.

With Simon Mignolet unavailable due to World Cup commitments with Belgium, Ward and Karius are the only two senior goalkeepers expected to travel.

Ward made just one appearance for Liverpool last season having spent the previous campaign on loan at Huddersfield Town, who he helped guide to promotion to the Premier League.

Klopp is still considering his goalkeeping options with Mignolet touted for a departure before the transfer window closes next month.

Good for Ward if he gets a chance. To go from playing everyday at Huddersfield to doing nothing all year as the 3rd choice keeper must have really sucked for him, but do not recall him complaining about it. I'd be OK if he and Karius battle it out for starter / backup and Migs is sold.

Why do we keeping persisting with trying out every keeper at the club. I thought this summer was meant to be a bit of a blockbuster one where we really stepped up to the next level? None of our keepers are at the required standard so why aren’t we getting a new one in before it’s too late.

Ward looks better than Karius to me. Although, my opinion of Karius being what it is, I could say that about a lot of goalies.

The truth is that we haven't seen enough of Ward for us to make any real judgement on him. I thought he should have been given more games last season, and if he had maybe we could be making him our number 1 by now with a bit of confidence. As it is, we will be taking a punt with a guy who is untested for us, and who Jürgen clearly rated below Karius until now.

It'd be another gamble to suddenly rely on him as our number 1. I'd like to see us buy another keeper to replace Mig and/or Karius, and try out Ward in the domestic cups. However he did look pretty good on the few glimpses I've had of him so he could pay off as our number 1, but it just has a distinct feel of us trying to cut corners and hope for the best in the GK position, again.

      Yeah, best of luck.

Really hope, and expect, him to become a Premier League regular.

Mad that we got £12.5M more for him than Emre Can and he made just 2 Premier League appearances for us.

Best of luck to the lad.

£12.5 million was good business for a 3rd choice goalkeeper.

Taken them to the cleaners if they end up keeping Schmeichel. 12.5M with a 20% future sell on clause for a completely unproven player at this level, mid 20s and as it stands is going to be back up keeper at Leicester unless things change with Schmeichel. Great deal for us.
