      Sturridge in Comparison
      Feb 03, 2015 05:15:52 pm
Danny currently has 37 goals in just a mere 53 games, that alone is incredible. Only 73 players have scored more than that, none of whom come close to scoring as frequently as Sturridge has in a Liverpool shirt.

Obviously we cannot expect certain players on this list to compare to Danny as they're midfielders or in some cases even defenders. Others were never, what you'd call the main forward.

But even those who were the main man, don't come close to Danny's record. If we can keep hold of him, and keep him fit, then in five to ten years, we could be talking about him being one of the best we've ever had.

At the rate he's currently going at, if he makes 250 games for the club, he'll be around 170 goals.

I can't believe what a signing he has been for us.

Is he our greatest signing in recent times? For the value of money and his goal ratio, I'm inclined to say yes.

I think it's the greatest Premier League signing of the last few years.

If he had stayed fit then I'd agree about being the best Premier League signing over the last few years but he's missed so many games.

Outstanding player.  I think he'd like to be loved - he'd like to be a Legend.

He strikes me as being an intelligent man.

To some extent he was in Luis' shadow last season; not anymore.

Lets really get behind him and urge him on to glory.

      He'll deliver.

Amazing stats yet people still don't see him a real top talent.  Hopefully his injury problems will settle down now and he can go on to become one of our all time greats.

Yep, our Danny can become our best ever if he stays reasonably fit , so I suggest that after the final day lap of honour we kidnap him, swoosh him off to some remote isolated island somewhere (Barry)until July, get him fit then unleash him come August,

Seriously he can be every bit as good if not better than Sanchez, Aguero or that dirty kunt Costa,
Really all depends on him staying injury free, but Ssh, don't tell JWH

Great stats there DLS and so far injuries aside he's made the same impact on our side as both Luis and Fernando did and as you rightly say at his current rate he'd become our 7 highest all time scorer behind Rush, Hunt, Hodgson, Liddell, Fowler and Dalglish BUT they are Legends with careers behind them.
It would it be interesting to compare our lengends first 53 games goal tallies against Danny's!

I'm constantly surprised by the fans of other teams not rating him very highly.

He's a very good finisher, but the key for me is that he generates a lot of power with hardly any backlift, plus he scores all sorts of goals, both feet, head, inside and outside the box, curlers, power shots, everything.

      Fantastic research! Thanks much.

I had always suspected he had one of the best strike rates in our history, but this confirms he actually has THE best. (Among players who make a large number of appearances -- I'm sure you can find a 1 app, 1 goal somewhere hah)

Agree with both. I mean, some posters on here were drumming up fantastical posts in the summer transfer forum and would leave him out of the team. Madness.

Fans of other teams can't see past the fact that Suarez was in the team at the same time, which they believe to be the only reason Daniel scored as many as he did.
Those of us that watched the games last season, and half the season before that, have seen the footballing brain that Sturridge has, his positioning, his movement, and finishing are that of a top striker.
This lad will continue to get better and better, and break records along the way.

Sorry, I should have been clearer.
The blokes I talk to about football, are on the whole very knowledgeable and have seen a fair bit of him, but still don't rate him highly.

I've spoken about his attributes, but they simply don't see it the same as I do, which is that he's a cracking player.

Of course there's always the chance they are a bit caught up in all the "baggage" hype that went on around Sturridge.

      Agree with this.

To top it off what I really like about Daniel is that he is a genuine good guy.

I don't know where the greedy, lazy, spoiled label came from but I have seen none of it here. He is a well spoken young man, who acts like a gentleman and not a thug.

The world could use a lot more like him, it would be a better place.

I've knocked it down to our top 20 goalscorers as seeing how many goals Tommy Smith, Emlyn Hughes and Steve Nicol (among others) scored in their first 53 games of their Liverpool career, won't add a great deal to the debate. (probably didn't in the first place but I was just doing everyone who'd scored more than Danny thus far)

      Sturridge - 37 goals
      Fowler - 35
      Torres - 34
      Parkinson - 34
      Stubbins - 33
      Hunt - 31
      Owen - 29
      Raybould - 28
      Rush - 28
      St John - 26
      Dalglish - 25
      Chambers - 23
      Hodgson - 22
      Suarez - 21
      Barnes - 18
      Forshaw - 18
      Keegan - 14
      Liddell - 13
      Toshack - 11
      Balmer - 11
      Gerrard - 2

I've always said he's that good and if we're not careful we could have another Suarez type situation in the near future.

I really can see Real / Barca / Bayern one day making a £70m + bid.

Thanks for that Billy, I thought those 2 should be on the list. I used to like Sammy Smyth back in the day but he walked out on the club when they refused to transfer him to an Irish club. They did eventually let him go about 3 years later. Tony Hately  did well but there was problems off the pitch and Bill Shankly got rid of him after 1 season.

The guy has been a revelation since joining from Chavs. And very few would've thought he'd turn out as well as he has, signed for 12mill in a Jan window. Been brilliant. Back 15 mins and knocks one in to close out a game, what we have been missing.

It's partly why I was sorry we didn't roll the dice this Jan. What would we have to loose by moving Borini on for example, or Mario? Bring in 8, 10mill or whatever, and take a chance on someone eg. Remy was going to be 8mill ... that kinda signing. Can be hard to predict who's going to spark, but with neither Borini or Mario scoring, would've liked us to give it a whirl.

Studge is an example of relatively low outlay reaping unexpectedly high rewards ...

Sturridge is a terrific talent I agree. Only dark side for me is when he sometimes goes into a sulk.  Suppose he'll grow out of that though.

Certainly has the knack of putting the ball, in the back of the net. It is just a pity it does not seem to rub off, onto one or two other players.

I'm constantly surprised by the fans of other teams not rating him very highly.

A lot of 'football fans' are idiots Swab.

He's a very good finisher, but the key for me is that he generates a lot of power with hardly any backlift, plus he scores all sorts of goals, both feet, head, inside and outside the box, curlers, power shots, everything.

I agree, he has the lot!!

At Chelsea and Citeh he was too young and whilst he's been with us Luis was the main man. Now this season is the first oportunity to be a No1 striker at a big club, and he going to be the b0ll0x because his record says he will!

I think now he'll finally shine in the countries and media's eyes yoo.. he is a £30m striker and we already have him here... i think thats why they are/were reluctant to spend big on a another forward...
