      Have to agree
Those 4 would be great addition and would mean that hopefully we could bin quite a few of our inadequate squad players

Some might call me crazy, but why not try for Alexandre Pato ? I know he had alot of problems with injuries in Italy, but maybe he put those past him as he's still young (25 years) and in Brazil he scores regularly.

A quick google search brought me an article of his clubs president "praying he could sell Pato". If a Brazilian club is praying they can sell a player then something urges me not to go and sign that player. The article also goes to say that Redknapp at QPR rejected a chance to sign Pato in January. A Prem club that was in need of help in January and eventually got relegated, rejected the opportunity.

Besides he is super injury prone, would spend more time with our medical staff then on the pitch.

Party boy Pato? Thanks but no thanks would be a bigger gamble than Balotelli was.

He could have been world class but too many injuries coupled with his party boy lifestyle mean he will never realise it. Shame really he used to be my favourite striker a few years back.

No. He played only 12 games for Bordeaux, 9 games at Granada, so a grand total 21 games in 2 years for 2 mediocre teams. How can he be good enough for us ?

And don't come up with the fact he's injury prone.

I'd rather have Coates than him.

Well nobody can be certain one way or the other. I can't help felling though that if he was actually a Rafael Verane waiting to happen, there'd be more clubs than Sunderland sniffing around him. The sensible thing to do is bring him back for pre-season and have a look at him. Assuming he can stay fit for longer than the 20 minutes he did last time, the manager can sensibly assess where he's at. He's become a mythical figure the likes of which we specialise in (Alberto Aquilani was one, Dani Pacheco another) and people hang their hats on these players building them up out of all proportion. Lets look see though, if he isn't ready yet loan him out. If he's never going to be ready, sell him on.

Liverpool will listen to bids for Lucas Leiva as Brendan Rodgers begins clear-out with Mario Balotelli, Rickie Lambert, Fabio Borini and Jose Enrique in line for chop too
Liverpool will consider offers from clubs for Brazilian star Lucas Leiva
The 28-year-old midfielder has been at Anfield since signing in 2007
But now he could be part of Brendan Rodgers' summer clear-out
Nathaniel Clyne will become their sixth signing of the summer this week
Mario Balotelli, Rickie Lambert, Fabio Borini, Jose Enrique in line for chop

Why not? He played just about every game he was eligible for and Coates was terrible for the vast majority of the year for Sunderland. I rate Ilori, because I've actually watched him play rather than look at a single stat. Its true that if his injury issues persist he won't make it with us, but that isn't because of a lack of talent.

We should look at Kevin Volland of Hoffenihem he's a potentially top striker who i think could come straight into the first time and make an impact, or Javier Hernandez but i dont think UTD would do business with us. well LVG might do it now Fergie has left

He played only 6 games last season as a striker, most of which were at U21 international level, and given that we are not looking at potential for this last striker signing I don't think its a good plan. I do think he is a good player, but he is the antithesis of what we need right now.

Also at 22, and a month from 23, I reckon if he is going to be a prolific striker, he would have started to play that position more frequently before now. Its not like Hoffenheim's traditional 9s are that great.

true maybe if we have change from Sterling sale we could still snap him up if we get rid of Borini, lambert, ballotelli he would be a great addition to the squad if we are to compete in europe and try win europa league

Honestly, I rate Origi higher. Just don't see the point. We don't need another squad attacking player.
Its weird that our fans drool over a player who is close to three years older than one of ours and who got the same goals tally in a team with Firmino, (whereas Origi had no quality playmakers in the Lille team) yet don't rate ours.

Thought he was a winger, rather than a striker mate so not what we need at this time.

Am I the only one a bit worried that we haven't been linked to a proper defensive midfielder? Someone who can shield the back four and move the ball about nicely?

I would have said it was our most important area to strengthen in apart from up top...

Not sure where Volland is getting this winger tag, but whenever I watched Hoffenheim last season, he is more of an inside foward and a player that could possibly be a 9 too.

I really think he would be a great buy and would be a starter for us.

If Lucas really is available then I would also be worried mate. If we're back to four at the back next year we have the very attacking Moreno who is a bit of a liability as a defender and we are just about to buy another very attacking player in Clyne so that DM position will be crucial.

Hopefully it means that Illaramendi is a very real target.

Because that is where he played for the majority of his games last season? He barely played as a striker for Hoffenheim. I don't think he would be a starter for us, either on the wing or up front.

He wasn't a winger though, he was more of an inside forward and his style of play suggests he is more suited to a #9 than winger.

I believe he's good enough for our first team, especially on the right of attack. At least until Sturridge returns.

Winger generally just refers to a wide attacking midfielder, regardless of type. That is where he plays. We have loads of good wide attacking midfielders.
As for good enough; he is nearly 23. If it were likely that striker would end up being his final position he'd probably be playing there already much more than he is. Also he's just come off a season just about identical to Borini's at Sunderland (he was the same age then too, playing mostly out wide). Volland is mostly a case of grass-is-greener elsewhere.
