      May 05, 2015 12:04:44 am
This is my favourite transfer rumour ever. No really you guys are going to love this. Its amazing.

Chelsea want one of our players.
Not Sterling or Coutinho, not even Sakho or Henderson.

      Ricky Lambert.
      Goal machine,

Chelsea weighing up move for Liverpool striker Rickie Lambert as Didier Drogba replacement
      22:30, 4 May 2015 By Darren Lewis

Stamford Bridge legend Drogba is out of contract this summer and the Blues had Lambert watched during Liverpool's win over QPR
Replacement: Will Lambert be at the Bridge next season?
Chelsea are considering a shock move for Rickie Lambert as a possible replacement for Didier Drogba.

The newly-crowned Champions had the 33-year-old Liverpool striker watched as he played the whole of Saturday’s 2-1 win over QPR.

The west Londoners are set to get an even closer look at Lambert next weekend as the Reds’ next game is at Stamford Bridge.

The former Southampton striker joins Tottenham’s Emmanuel Adebayor on the Chelsea shortlist to replace 37-year-old Drogba - third choice behind Diego Costa and Loic Remy - who is out of contract at the end of the season.

Drogba has confirmed he wants to continue playing but boss Jose Mourinho has yet to confirm whether the Blues legend will stay.

Last week the Special One suggested a final decision could be made by Chelsea owner, Roman Abramovich.

A move for Lambert would leave the Liverpool striker with yet another tough decision to make.

He decided against a £5million deadline day switch from his boyhood club to Aston Villa - where he would have gained regular first-team football - earlier this year.

He is now, however, one of several Reds stars allowed to leave Anfield at the end of the season and is expected to go for considerably less when the transfer window reopens.

Crystal Palace and Hull, who also expressed an interest during January, could also return to offer him more regular action this summer.

Since opting to stay at Anfield in February, Lambert has made just one start and eight substitute appearances, most of which have come in the closing minutes.

(So obviously I don't think this will happen, but still you have to laugh. Also making a thread for this because I want to save this rumour for posterity)

I would rather keep Lambert here than Balo and Borini, and of course we still need at least 1-2 more strikers to compete with Sturridge.

      Very bizarre rumour.

Thing is, I actually reckon he would do ok at the chavs at their 3-4 pick striker.

To be fair, Lambert is a much better striker than he has shown over the last 10 months. Brendan tries to force him to play in a style that doesn't suit him rather than playing to his strengths. He actually is the type of big, strong, target man that Mourinho likes and I think he'd do well as their 3rd choice striker. When teams play to his strengths he is usually good for 10-15 goals and 5-10 assists per season.

Probably won't happen as most transfer rumors are complete fabrications, but I wanted to take the opportunity to defend the lad.

Didn't Brendan play with a similar style striker at Swansea with Danny Graham though?

Its one thing that has mystified me a little this season. Brendan seems loath to change style a little to try and coax more out of the team with the likes of Lambert in it.

Linked to West Brom.  £3m fee on a 33-yr old isn't that bad a return.

That's what I kept saying all season long, BR doesn't even know what is Lambert's strength is. He is never a lone striker that can razzle dazzle past defenders, he excels in a combo as with Lallana, yet BR continues to use Lambert as a lone striker or a target man in the box when the crosses  ended up everywhere except at Lambert's head.

Absolutely. Also, one of the reasons why we didn't get to see the real Lallana too. Lallana simply plays better off a target man which hasn't been looked into last season.

would like to keep him, but if he's going to be frozen out we shouldn't be pricks and just let him go play elsewhere.

He's certainly to be frozen out, he'll be the 5th choice after Sturridge, Origi, Ings, Balotelli.

agreed top lad shame it never worked out but dont think it ever was going to work out. he can tick off a life abition to say he played for his boyhood club at senior level. dont think it was a good move for his career at his age he needs all the game time he can get before calling it a day. hopefully a deal can be done and he gets 1st team prem footy again.

We don't have a better penalty-taker, or any other brute-force type striker. In my opinion we shouldn't sell.

A transfer for sentimental reasons rather than ability reasons. All well and good having him as a Plan B or whatever but even then he is just completely wrong for the type of game we play and if we didnt use him as an alternative last season, when we were playing terrible then there is no point him staying another season because he clearly isn't going to play. He's had his dream move for a season, he's captained the team for whatever daft reason and has scored the odd goal, now time to move on lad.
