      Mike Marsh sacked
      Jun 05, 2015 02:31:19 am
Liverpool 'won't renew' Mike Marsh's contract after end of season review.

Fresh from backing manager Brendan Rodgers - Liverpool have decided not to renew the contract of first team assistant coach Mike Marsh.

After finishing eight points behind the top four, the reds have decided that somebody must be held accountable and have turned their attention to former midfielder Marsh who initially joined the club under Real Madrid manager Rafa Benitez's reign at the club.

He was described as the 'scouse heart' of Brendan Rodgers coaching side but after Liverpool's disappointing season it appears he simply had to go.

Marsh made over a hundred appearances for Liverpool, scoring six times.  His debut came two months before the Hillsborough disaster but he was transferred away from the club by Graeme Souness four years later.

Disappointing. Who else will be our professional goal celebrator?

Seriously though, i don't know what he did for us as a coach. All the best to him in the future.

It's maybe not as harsh as that if contract expires. But yes that#'s the way it looks.

Money talks at FSG. It would be expensive to sack Rodgers isn't it? So you take the cheaper option. Makes sense now.

I would agree 100% under a different manager, we have just seen Mike Marsh become the sacrificial lamb under Rodgers management and I would not like the same thing to happen to Hyypia.
What I would like to see is a full transcript of the conversation between Rodgers and the FSG  bigwigs to see how  the blame for the last  season was apportioned to Mike Marsh.

How do you know that though Si? Could be that he isn't as good as we thought. A coach is very important and he could have a lot to do with our defending. We don't know what goes on everyday in training at Melwood. If we get a  more defensive coach in then for me it may be a good move. People are reading too much into this without being privvy to the facts or Marsh's ability.

I mean irrelevant in that I don't think he or Pascoe ever have had much impact on our side as Brendan is very much the coach.

If I was guessing I'm not sure he is very good but that never really bothered me as I knew we had a manager who was very much hands on. If we had a manager who was more like Ferguson I'd have been much more worried about how good the coaches were.

Like I said though some are now using this sacking as a stick to beat FSG with when its the very thingany were calling for all season.

Get Brendan help was the cry.

He's only going to succeed here with a better coach beside him.

Well FSG seem to agree but still seems its not good enough.

Maybe it's because it was scouser Marsh that got fired and not the favourite target in Pascoe that is the problem?

No, it's because it's the owners making a noise with no real substance to it. It absolutely reeks of a stitch up. Not saying MM was good enough. But to say the other two monkeys were and get of Scott free is a joke.

After backing the manager they were never likely to sack him right hand man. That would be silly.

The Marsh sacking is irrelevant to me as I always said that if Brendan was to survive then the change I wanted was above him and someone brought in to shape the transfers and also someone who is more experienced than what we have in getting deasl done quickly.

Many on here advocated a change below Brendan in order for us to be more successful but it seems that is now not the right decision.

Agree in principle, but what the f**k does Pascoe do apart from grin like a tw*t? Agrees with whatever Brendan says I would assume!

We knew after finishing runners-up that defensively we are sh*t, so why not do something then?

Haha people want change. Sack 1st team coach and suddenly they are blaming BR for that.

I would sack the lot of the backroom staff. They werent up to it.

Starting here means progress is happening.

      All the best Mike.

They're probably just copying it from me, since I mentioned a while ago I'd love for him to come back in the Picture Thread.

      ;D

Me too, and more ex players. but we shall see, probably end up with some unknown pal of rodgers from his chavski days. ;D

Agree. Can't believe people are upset :D

We all questioned what Pascoe and Marsh actually do and then when one leaves "OMFGGGG Brendan wat r u doin???"

All he did in his time here was listen to Brendan's mid-game chat and celebrate when we scored.

More coaching casualties, the better. Lord knows we need it.

It wouldn't surprise me if he and Rodgers have had some sort of disagreement and ultimately, Rodgers won.
All the best to him whatever the situation.

scapegoat does fit the bill better.

Guess someone had to go this week, unlucky for Marsh that it was him. Not going to sit here and speculate about what he actually did, whether he was just a yes man etc. because I haven't got the slightest clue.

Hope we can use the vacancy to bring in someone who can improve the defence and fire the lads up.

Coaching potential holds no guarantees, acquiring proven performers can be a key to success.

Not sure how Marsh fit in to either, stuey. At his age, he isn't quite 'potential' and with his ability he isn't quite 'proven performer'.

If Sami coming back is true, good move. We need a coach who can set a team up to defend.

Yep Sami would be a great choice, hasn't worked as a manager for him yet so a few years with us might be great for him (and us obviously, he'd no doubt improve our defence).

Think Carra's going to stick with working in the media for a few more years though.

How the f**k do any of you have a reaction to this one or another? Do all of you f**king play for LFC and work with Marsh on a daily basis to know if he's a good coach or not? Jesus Christ. This is like the miniature Colin Pascoe body language thread.

Let's see who comes in to replace him before committing to a full opinion of if its a decision that will benefit the club

      Thanks Marshy YNWA

Agreed. The level of assumptions people make about any little news coming out of the club is getting a bit ridiculous

After reading many history books and on new evidences that surfaced, I tend to believe opposite of what the history book says and it applies to Marsh's case. I need the Liverpool connection back, the Thommos, Robbies, Rushies, Carras etc to steer the ship on course, I don't need someone who has not won anything important to mange this club. We're like a huge ship that has lost it's compass at the moment.

Not thought that after his contract expired, his performance was reviewed and he was deemed not good enough to deserve a new contract?

Some seriously silly comments on here. Thrown under the bus? Seriously?

Iv said it all along, the backroom staff weren't ready to make the move to a good club. If his replacement makes us 5% better it will be a good thing.

Hopefully the replacement will bring a lot more than 5% and also question bren on some stupid decisions.

I know Colin Pascoe had 12 months left on his contract so has something to protect in saying nothing but Mike marsh has been let go with nothing so it will be interesting to see if he has anything to say on the night of the long knives.
