I was genuinely shocked to see that Neymar was the captain :D

To be honest I prefer Neymar as captain than the crying baby Thiago Silva.
It is not ideal to have someone so young in the role though - it just goes on to show how lacking in leaders Brazil are.

The last thing I will ever expect from a Brazil captain is to ask not to take a penalty in a World Cup, even more so at home. For all his faults as a player and especially as a manager, Dunga would have never done that. He would have gotten the ball and asked to take one. Like he did in the WC 94 final (vs Italy) and the WC 98 semifinal (vs Holland).

But in 2014 we had this:

      Instead of this:

That miss by Firmino yesterday was a shocker. Colombia defended so well as a unit though. Excellent team defending.

3 match ban + 1 (because he had 2 yellow cards). Whats incredible is that the 3 match ban is for "assault on the match official" on the tunnel, and not for the attempted headbutt.

yeah, all a bit confusing, the ban seemed to grow in length, smacks of politicking from the authorities

      16 Argentina
      20 chile
      26 chile
      27 peru
      35 peru
      37 argentina
      41 chile
      47 ecuador
      53 peru
      59 ecuador
83 brazil ( no fixed venue, but match with Brazil was in fact a "winner gets the cup" match)
      87 Argentina
      99 Paraguay (penalties)
      2007 Venezuela
      2011 Argentina

In all those occasions Uruguay beat the Copa America host nation, even if we didnt go on to win the Copa. We really are quite the party poopers :)
Mentioning that cause Uruguay are set to play Chile on quarter final stages. Dont think we can pull it off without Luis, but heres to hoping

Coutinho starting as well as Rondo who we're supposedly interested in!!! Nice to see a T.Silva and Miranda partnership.

Good Brazil and dunga are pretty dire, 2-0 and cruising, take of coutinho and firminio and bring on luiz etc and concede a goal and start hanging on to grim death. Honestly can't say who is favourite to win the tournament.

You love Dunga don't you :D

If there's one thing I've learnt from the Copa America this year, it's that you despise Dunga.

      haha :D

Definitely not a big fan. But to be honest, in 2010 he got Brazil playing a football that wasn't pretty, but highly efficient. They were a better team with him than under Scolari, and lost the WC in unfortunate circumstances against Holland. I just don't think he's the person we need right now. I never understood CBF's urge to appoint someone so quickly after the World Cup fiasco - after a tragedy like that, the situation of our football could and should have been opened for debate and different options should have been evaluated. Instead they opted to go back to a manager most Brazilian fans never liked and which had an awful relationship with the media and the public in general. He's not awful and will probably get results but he's not the solution; going for short fixes won't change anything. Even if we win the Copa America - which we did the last time he was our manager, beating Argentina's best by 3-0 with a B team!!! - it won't mean anything. No one is saying Brazil has fallen behind Colombia, or Chile. It's Spain, Germany who are ahead of us. We're fortunate to be a big country with talent erupting everywhere so we might find ourselves winning stuff again pretty soon, but in my eyes it would be in spite of CBF's actions, not because of them.

Shame Cavani got sent off. I think Uruguay could've taken Chile to pens or even snatched a win.

Gonzalo Jara 'banned' for rest of the 2015 Copa America after he 'inserted finger into Edinson Cavani's anus'

Chile defender Gonzalo Jara has been banned for the rest of the Copa America after he "inserted a finger into Edinson Cavani's anus", it has been reported.

The 29-year-old Mainz defender, who has previously played for West Brom, Brighton and Hove Albion and Nottingham Forest, was caught on TV provoking Uruguay striker Cavani following a confrontation between the two.

After referee Sandro Ricci spoke to the pair to try and dissolve the feud, Jara went back towards Cavani and shockingly tried to put his finger in Cavani’s anus, with the Paris Saint-Germain responding by glancing the face of Jara.

Despite the little contact between Cavani’s hand and Jara’s chin, the Chile international flung himself theatrically to the floor, and Ricci issued a second yellow card to Cavani having already booked him in the first half for a foul on Arturo Vidal, meaning Cavani suffered the ignominy of being sent-off a year to the day after Luis Suarez bit Italy defender Giorgio Chiellini during the 2014 World Cup.

Cavani won’t face a Copa America suspension given that Uruguay went on to lose the game 1-0 and suffer quarter-final elimination, but it appears that Jara’s tournament is also over. South American journalist Juan Arango has reported that Jara will be banned for the remainder of the tournament for his actions, with official confirmation set to come later today over whether Jara will face disciplinary action.

“Huge blow: Gonzalo Jara suspended for remainder of Copa América after altercation tonight. #developing,” Arango said on Twitter.

Earlier in the tournament, Brazil’s Neymar was handed a four-match ban for a headbutt during the group game against Colombia, which ended his participation in Chile this summer.
