Get Clyne and Bacca in here and we are looking sweet.

      I'd be made up mate.

We needed goals so if we got Firmino and Bacca and still signed a RB along with Milner and Ings then it's way above my expectations for this window.

Upon learning that Ayre is doing the deal journalists are revisingn their initial headlines.

Honestly it's like sending in Mr Blobby to head up peace talks between Israel and Palestine. In fact Blobby could come out with better results.

I just feel, seeing as we bought Ings and Origi coming in, we should at least give them an opportunity. I don't think we should buy another #9. With Firmino, he's not the Sterling replacement, but the Suarez one, and if played along side a forward, I really can see Firmino making a huge difference to our attack.

Who was it on here who is a massive fan of this lad and always talked about him?

      Was it Crouchy or Diego?

I think maybe both of us :D but not the only ones though - other posters have also been talking about him for a while

      Those quotes seem encouraging:

Sky Sports News HQ reporter Dharmesh Sheth said: "This is potentially very good news for Liverpool.

"We understand that they have agreed a deal with Hoffenheim for attacking midfielder Roberto Firmino.

"He is at the Copa America in Chile at the moment, but he has given Liverpool a verbal undertaking that he will join in the next 24 hours.

"Sources in Germany have also told us that the deal is as good as done.

"As far as we are concerned, we have been told that the deal has been agreed and that he has given a verbal undertaking that he will join in the next 24 hours."

Yeah Bacca is one of those, where I don't think he's an ideal type you can not argue with the amount of times he finds the back of the net.

Think if our remaining signings consisted of:

      Firmino
      Clyne
      Illarramendi
      Bacca

You'd find very few (always the odd one or two) who'd be complaining.

I think that's definitely achievable with the £40m from Raheem + Balotelli, Lambert, Borini, Aspas, Alberto.

Not to mention I would hope to see that normal 30m or so that the club generates put in also.

If true the best part of this whole thing is we are getting them in and securing the deals and not waiting to move our dead weight.

As Si mentioned hopefully a bit of a change in tactic by the club.

      Probably both :D

I love him. Haven't said anything about him since we were linked so i wouldn't get carried away.

Hopefully, although I do feel that the Raheem money is pretty much just getting counted though. I'd also expect at least £30m to come in from the club side, our CL money and also the mega TV, commercial increases should boost the coffers.

Could this type of signing maybe convince Raheem to stay? Because then we'd be loaded in attacking talent - would just need another proven scorer as we unfortunately cannot rely on Sturridge.

Exactly like last season then, Luke? £28.3m net spend last summer.

Never seen the lad play, but I'll take the word of the far more knowledgeable posters on this forum that he's the real deal :D

Signing made all the more sweeter by the fact we seem to have beaten the mancs to him!

Looking at a few more stats, what surprised me a bit were Firmino's defensive stats.

He's averaged 2.13 tackles won per 90 minutes - Coutinho averaged 1.58, David Silva 1.23 and Sterling only 0.58.

In terms of interceptions, he's again head and shoulders above other attacking midfielders: 1.14 per 90 minutes, against Coutinho's 0.55, Sterling's 0.50 and Silva's 0.72.

Same goes for clearances: Firmino averaged 0.93 per 90 minutes in the Bundesliga, while all the others I'm comparing him to were below 0.48.

This proves nothing of course, but indicates he is a player not only with high attacking productivity, but who also works hard for the team. Can only be a good thing.

I see the BBC are reporting the fee of £29 million as having been agreed. That's it in the bag for me (in terms of the fee). The beeb sort say fool all until their sure. Happy happy days, I didn't know they had it in em!

I don't for one minute think we will be in for a player like Bacca on top of this though. I think it's more likely we rely on Ings, Origi, Balotteli and Studge for the season ahead. Hope I'm wrong on Balotteli. Least we won't be in for frickin Benteke!

Brilliant players does not need many chances, they may not come in much but brilliant players takes their chances even if they are few. In those ten contacts, he lose the defender and scored a good goal.

Stats may lie or not give the whole picture ;)
Havent seen a lot of the lad tbh, I´ll be happy proven wrong. Hope Firmino is the real deal, quallity is there obviously. Just a gut feel he will find it hard to compete in hurly-burly PL. Bit slowish for my liking. And hes no striker, thats clear as day. Needs a good centre forward  to work off as an attacking mid. Heres a hoping hes not lined up as a replacement for Coutinho FSG planning to sell the next summer.
