Hate all this about 'natural position' the lad is so young he doesn't know his natural position yet. At this age Skrtel was playing as a striker. Joe may well be better at left back than he is at centre back. He may be better at right back? Bale was a 'natural left back' until he was 21.

I know mate that's my point, at this age we can't really be sure on his best position. Good to see he can play a few though.

Let's hope it's not too serious, I didn't/haven't seen how it happened yet, just turned it on before the Wales game starts and he was on the sideline being treated.

Signs seem encouraging hopefully.

New Liverpool boss Jürgen Klopp has been rocked by the news that Joe Gomez has suffered a suspected anterior cruciate ligament injury which could end his season.

The talented 18-year-old defender hurt his right knee in the closing stages of England Under-21s’ 3-0 victory over Kazakhstan at Coventry City on Tuesday night.

Initially, international medical staff were hopeful that the problem was only minor but on his return to Melwood on Wednesday the teenager’s worst fears were realised.

Scan results suggest there is extensive damage to his ACL and if confirmed he will be facing between six and nine months on the sidelines.


Gomez picked up the injury 10 minutes from time after an innocuous challenge near the corner flag and needed to be helped from the pitch.

It’s a crushing blow for the versatile youngster, who has proved a big hit at Liverpool since his summer move from Charlton Athletic for an initial fee of £3.5million.

An impressive pre-season under Brendan Rodgers resulted in him starting the first six games of the new campaign. He played at left-back before lining up in his favoured central role against both Bordeaux and FC Sion.

Klopp is a well-known admirer of Gomez with Borussia Dortmund having closely monitored his progress throughout last season.

However, the new Reds boss now faces the prospect of being without the young defender until next term.

Sickened for young Joe if it's his ACL.

This means we will have to sign a defender as priority in January.

Out for the season  according to sky , bad loss for us that .

It's a real shame because he's shown such potential. I feel we'll miss out with him out of the XI at the moment.

Players getting injured on international duty -- it's the Liverpool Way.

Tough loss with Gomez. There's a player in there, but hopefully he can recover if his ACL is indeed injured.

Gutted for the lad, had a feeling he was going to get a few chances in the middle before January.

Hope he can bounce back from this.

We really do have no right back cover at the moment then it seems. Clyne can't play every game so somebody has to get game time out there.

Shame we didn't keep hold of Ilori, he would have been useful right about now.

Devastated for the lad, the club have probably got a direct debit set up for compensation with those fuckers at the fa it's happened so often.

Wasn't there a club that just received compensation for a player suffering a critical injury whilst on international duty?

I bloody well knew it was worse than they thought when I saw him being treated. 

Absolutely gutted for him as he had a ready made starting slot just waiting for him to take it

All players are covered for injuries on international duty mate but I don't think many clubs actually claim but I don't blame them if they did.
