To be fair to Southgate, a guy I don't really rate, where he played Trent these last two games suits him more if he's going to start and stay in midfield and opposed to the hybrid role he done for us last season.

I don't see him as a 6 I'd he plays in midfield as a starter and he's much more capable in that 8 role.

We forget England has lost to 'easy draws' many many times.

Quite extraordinary the change in Trent when moved into midfield because while I'm not excusing how sloppy he became in defense, like totally lazy. I'd rather have him in midfield here as a very special player than him sulking at right back. Get a right back in, one verrrry important need has been solved, our pedestrian and nothing to brag about midfield now has a new superstar, young getting older Trent, time to get real, actually buy a right back now, don't convert someone into a right back, you know actually spend money, that thing what owners can do when the club has potential.

I actually have a feeling we are looking for a RB and Trent is gonna play most of his time in the middle.

Whey else would he cut his Holiday short to do lung busting runs up in the altitude? Well that's what I read somewhere this morning.

Has to be getting ready for a midfield role, getting himself in prime physical condition for his new role which IMHO, he will be fkn sensational in, full time!

I definitely agree with you that he would thrive most as an out and out midfielder, and I pray you're right. However, I think he plays the same way he did the last 9 games. I think he looked great doing it, but there's still some tinkering with the whole team that needs to be done from this masterclass management Klopp has done, thus we need him there to work out the kinks.

I'd just like to stick him in the middle and get a new RB to be honest.

I can see him being a 20 goal midfielder. Got all the tools in the world for it!

I think you’re spot on ( for a change ) and will only drop to the RB roll when  tactically needed or injuries.

I think Klopp always had the intention of moving Trent to midfield once he was physically and mentally mature enough for the role.

Trent will keep playing the hybrid role, where he'll move in as one of the 6's in the middle when we have the ball, and when the oppo has it he'll be expected to drop into RB as part of the back 4. For me the signings of Mac and Dom (both suit the 10 roles) confirm the intent to play the box mid when we have the ball, and the 433 when the other team has extended possession.

The real question for me is what happens if Trent is unavailable? I can't see anyone being able to pull off the hybrid role as well as he does, so do we just go back to the 433?

If he's injured we've a problem as we don't have any right backs that are first team ready.

I'd like to see us buy a RB and free Trent up from things he doesn't want to do. Let him concentrate on his strengths.

Joe Gomez can play RB and do a decent job there if necessary.

With Trent moving up to midfield i wouldn’t be at all surprised if a RB came in. Unless you like Gomez there   :lmao:

Gomez is a calamity in his 'best' position Keith. Trying him at right back is like going from bad to worse than bad.

It's worth investing in a quality specialist right back because if we have a stable back 4 ... that's the base to build from and it would make us so much better. If you want to challenge for the top spot it's a must. At no point last season werd we a unit at the back. Trent was exposed time and time again. But let's be honest he wasn't the only one.

oh yea, thats what im saying. This current team hasn't lost. So they get branded as easy teams and it gets taken for granted.

But then in the past we last to said easy teams, even the so called golden generation struggled.

The national team is in a double bind situation with some fans/pundits.

Gomez in a regular starting 11 will undoubtedly cost you points, I’m really surprised he hasn’t gone. I can only put it down to limited funds and Klopp has no option  but to keep him.

While Trent is performing an 'acceptable' dual role the situation is bearable to Jürgen being under financial limitations as he is, as pointed out however one injury could have dire consequences.

Yep and no top team with title aspirations should be operating like that.

That's why maybe dropping a midfield target, using trent and putting that money down on a RB would be a good bet I think.

Neco Willams was competent and premier league ready. But sold in a books balancing exercise and replaced by a kid who is now out on loan. Maybe if we were not making a habit of letting international footballers aged 30 and under leave for free and actually getting money in for them we'd have abit more in the pot.

All that said I'd like to see a RB come in. Sit trent down and define his role in the team as a midfielder. He's alot of attributes to excel there. He just needs the regular game time there. I think when things go wrong defensively ... it affects his morale and confidence. Just take those worries away from him. Put a quality player in there who relishes it.
