See this is the problem right here, a chance of what? Nobody expects England to win anything major. Quarter finals would be quite good, even last 16 is acceptable.

You are correct because a lot of reds fans aren't even English, why would Scottish, Irish, Welsh, American, German etc.. liverpool fans support England? Every year in Liverpool the pubs are still full during the world cup when England play, every scouse great played for England, they did not turn round and refuse to play. Gerrard, Carra etc... did they turn round and say I am not English I am scouse? Scouse, Cockney, Geordie.. All English people because they are from cities in England. The people born in Liverpool who don't feel English are often of Irish and Scottish ancestry so they technically have claim to another nationality. 100% English scousers who don't have old connections to pre world war stuff do often back the national team. I am off to carry this on in the right thread

Let's not fall out chaps, us English are a complicated bunch, very difficult to understand from the outside. We all have strong regional identities few more so than the scouse which when put into context of the struggle that city has been through and what it's been subjected to by the national press over the last thirty years is even more understandable. I'm not scouse but it's exactly that unique cultural identity that attracts me to the club, the spirit of solidarity

Surely there is a pluralistic attitude here, that true supporters can be from varied economic, social, religious, political, ethnic, regional and national backgrounds. I certainly understand the need to beware the bandwagon-climbing, fair-weather fan type, but barring that, isn't the common denominator the fact of actually backing the Reds?

Liverpool fans can support the Ing-er-lund team, just as some can choose not to. I choose not to, for many reasons, chief amongst them being the shitty, jingoistic, patriotic racist crap that I have witnessed, first hand, from a far too large minority of fans and another being the absolutely corrupt, money grubbing, self-serving cretins that run the FA. Can supply more, but these two are more than enough reason.
