Then you're stuck with a near 30 year old come the end of the season who could be on the decline very soon and who won't leave. Leave him where he is and aim higher in the summer.
I'm not saying buy him for sure, but it's an option. Hell, he could be given a short term contract, ie two years.
You say aim higher, but there's NEVER a guarantee someone will come in and be successful. Just look at some massive names that have come to the PL and failed miserably. Shevchenko, Torres at the chavs, Falcao, Soldado etc...
So like I said before, I'm not saying make sure we get him, but if a decent bit of business is done, at the right price, the right contract, then it could swing favourably for us. Personally, I'd like to see "better" players sought, but after paying nearly 70m for big Andy and big Ben, is around 10m really going to hurt?
