Here's an idea, why don't be bin off our "committee" and gets theirs in?

Haha that's an idea to consider ;D Work permit issues in England might make our lives more difficult though, Shakhtar usually sign lots of Brazilian players, some of which don't turn out into anything particularly special and are often loaned or sold back to Brazil (as is the case with Alan Patrick, currently on loan at Flamengo). They also dominate their league entirely so it's easier to develop those players. That's similar to what Portuguese teams do more generally with South American sides, sign them in large quantities, and those they manage to sell to bigger leagues more than pay for those that fail.

Which is not to say they do anything other than a pretty good scouting job, of course, but they're able to sign more quantity and can afford to give their players more opportunities

I know its the Ukrainian league but he looks to have that same low centre of gravity, skill and strength that Suarez Sanchez and Aguero display.

They are quoting that Petrosyan guy from Twitter. So the reliability check should be whether he's reliable, not the metro.

We won't sign him, we will beat around the bush with the asking price trying to save a few million quid in the mean time someone like Chelsea will step in and gazump us and we'll end up with a secondary target who will be sh*te and still of cost about 15 million.

Please just pay the asking price

Maddock is saying theres no asking price. But its Maddock so heres a hope.

Liverpool are facing a near impossible struggle in their attempt to sign Brazilian star Alex Teixeira in the January window.

The Reds have bid £25m for the Shakhtar Donetsk midfielder, but they have already had that offer turned down flat by the club's billionaire owner Rinat Akhmetov.

The oligarch is the richest man in Ukraine and owns a vast business empire that was - until the recent conflict in that war-torn country - valued at more than £12billion.

The 49-year-old businessman controls more than half of Ukraine's coal, steel and thermo-electricity sectors, and has also invested heavily in the London property market, including the purchase of the most expensive property in Britain.

In 2013 he paid £136.4m for an apartment in One Hyde Park, as he looked to move the base of his empire to England's capital.

Akhmetov is said to be obsessed with Shakhtar, despite the damage his business because of the conflict in his home city of Donetsk which is just 50 miles from the Russia border, where Russian-backed rebels have taken control, and declared an independent Donetsk People's Republic.

His football club has been forced to move from their recently built multi-million pound Donbass arena and play all their home games in the western Ukraine city of Lviv, with plans to move back put on hold after the stadium was bombed in 2014.

But Akhmetov issued a statement recently insisting that his Brazilian star, who has scored 50 goals in the last two seasons, will not be sold in the January window.

He wants to keep Shakhtar as a symbol of hope for the residents of Donetsk, after recently making a speech denouncing the Independent Donetsk Republic. Akhmetov is not a man to be trifled with.

He took control of the club when his former business partner and suspected criminal underworld leader, Akhat Bragin, was blown up in his seat at the football club's stadium in 1995.

Akhmetov, who was the vice president of Shakhtar at the time, had skipped the game where five other people were killed along with the president in the VIP directors' box.

He has since denied any links with the bombing, or with Bragin's organised crime connections, despite working as his assistant. The billionaire's fortune has taken a hit since the conflict in his home country, and he has largely relocated to London, where he is quietly building a new empire, and his current wealth is valued at more than £7billion.

One source suggested he will not budge on selling Teixeira until the summer."For him, the football club is the main part of his life,” one expert suggested. “All of the decisions regarding players are between him and the coach. Nothing is done without him.”

The Brazilian attacking midfielder is also wanted by Chelsea, and he will push hard to leave in January, even though he realises he is fighting a losing battle.

The 26 year old is currently at a training camp in Florida with his Ukraine club, but he spoke to Brazilian journalists recently, insisting he wanted to move to boost his chances of playing for his country.

“Playing in the Premier League is a personal dream – it's the best championship in the world,” he said a month ago. “What I've heard and what my agent has said is that Chelsea, Juventus and PSG have made offers, but Chelsea and Juventus have gone further in the negotiations.

“All three are big clubs. Wherever I'll end up, I'll be happy. I'm happy to have received this offer from Chelsea, one of Europe's big clubs, but it's my agent who's taking care of this.”

One thing is for sure, if Liverpool's bid is to be successful, then they will have to significantly increase it from the current £25m on the table, with sources suggesting an offer beyond £40m will be required and even then probably in the summer.

There's always a bigger element of uncertainty when players come from smaller, less demanding leagues but most players out of Shakhtar recently have been pretty solid elsewhere, such as Willian (Chelsea), Douglas Costa (Bayern), Mkhitaryan (Dortmund), Fernandinho (Man City).

Obviously that guarantees nothing regarding Alex Teixeira but it makes me more confident that he can make an impact in the EPL. Both Willian and Douglas Costa were promising youngsters in Brazil who showed all their lack of experience with certain predictability and a deficient end product. Both seem to have become much better players at Shakhtar, greater work rate and tactical awareness, much better end product etc.

Whether that was just to them naturally maturing with age or not, I have a feeling it may be in large part due to the work done at the club. Their manager (Lucescu) has been there for ages (over 10 years) so there's a big element of continuity in the work they do with the youngsters they sign from South America.

Indeed mate. It's always a gamble but the examples you've given, especially Willian and Costa are very valid. It depends on the type of player he is, and it'll be the first transfer target Klopp would have been involved with so I guess we have to trust his judgment a bit more than BR's. If those are the stats and the valuation as well as Chelsea's previous interest in him, around 30m would be a worthwhile risk. We're also crying out for goal scorers. Ready made strikers are very hard to come by in January so why not this lad?

He looks far more mobile and skillful than Benteke too, would fit in nicely in Klopp's way.

Why do we seem to always go after players that have some sort of complicated back story (or the clubs or owners we have to deal with do)?

The fact that we came out of nowhere may be a case of some internal conflict amongst the two billionaires. There has to be some development in this for Ayre to fly out.

And regarding if we need him or not, he will walk in to our startling line so there really isn't an argument.

Hope we get him, for once I want us to get someone the London clubs wanted and not the other way around.

      This sounds logical, unfortunatelly.

Just done my scouting work via youtube, the boy is class. Still, its almost all fast breaks and lot of space, would like to see him open up a packed West Brom defence. That said the lad looks a better finisher than Lallana I have to admit.
