Damn shame, we wont be seeing Xhaka Can in our midfield, there was a song about those two together I just can't quite put my finger on :D

      From that to Drinkwater Can

We keep hearing he is our number 1 target CM.

If this is the case why has the deal not been done, I hope Ayre is not low balling again the FSG stoodge.

Going to be a tough one with Gladbach having already sold Xhaka.

Chats is suggesting that it will be more difficult to get Dahoud with Gladbach having already sold Xhaka.  Not many teams are willing to sell both of their first choice CM's in a single window.

Too much hippy crack on the holiday ???

Nevermind, that was a stupid question.... one can never have too much of a good thing ;)

      Gotcha now... sorry chats.

So, just to be clear Harry - the difficulty we have with signing our "number one C.M. target" is that Arsenal moved quicker to get theirs and if we had moved quicker Arsenal probably wouldn't have got Xhaka; is that correct?

Makes sense that (I suppose) and what better excuse if things go tits up apart from 'He preferred London' of course but we can always use that for Xhaka.

Got me thinking tho'... why would 'we' expect a team (any team) to sell it's only starting centre forward for example but not it's starting midfielders?

Too much hippy crack on the holiday

Yet just as many judge Lallana that way.
They aren't right to judge Lallana that way either, however, Lallana does play further forward so it's less surprising for people to judge him that way.
Before this year, Henderson was one of our best players. I am fully confident he will reach that level again.

Tbf, Arsenal had Xhaka lined up for the summer round about October - it was just price negotiation from then on. Dahoud hadn't made his name at that point. We couldn't have moved faster than Arsenal unless we wanted an indirect bidding war.

Thanks for the info Thadd.  :gt-happyup:

So... signing Dahoud was always going to be difficult and 'we' would have known that; would that be right?

Anyhows; on topic - I watch a bit of the Bundesliga and Dahoud has never stood out as being better than anything we have. Other than if he's what Jürgen wants; I wouldn't be perturbed if we were to lose out.

Although it will be interesting to see if, even after losing Xhaka, Monchengladbach sell him on to someone else.  8)

Just noticed a guy called Stefan Bienkowski (German journalist) denying Gladbach will sell Dahoud this summer at all. Which is in keeping with other comments from German journalists, despite constant comments from Liverpool journos.

If this guy is a top midfield priority, surely waiting till after their other two midfielders have been sold for big bucks before bidding is a fabulously Liverpool thing to do.

If this is the guy Klopp wants most, I'll be pretty disappointed on seeing us missing out on a top target yet again.

Are we just going to pluck random German journalists out of thin air? I mean, I could take a Daily Star journalist and use that to claim something - it doesn't mean I"m correct though. Who is he, what has he gotten correct in the past, who does he work for?

One of their midfielders has been sold. Nordtveit had played most of his games in defence last season and left for nothing. If the money is right, Gladbach will sell just like all clubs.

Do you really think Klopp is heavily involved in the negotiations?

I've given you his name, google him if you are that precious about needing a biography.

He wasn't "plucked out of thin air", he is one of a few respectable German journalists, including Rafa Honigstein, who have been pretty clear that they expect Gladbach to keep hold of him and cash him in when he is a bit older.

That would mean they expect Dahoud to sign a new deal. If he doesn't then their plan is flawed. He only has two years left on his current deal.

Probably not, but no transfer is smooth sailing. He will be heavily involved in the strategy, so if one player might cost more than initially anticipated, or isn't available Klopp will be necessary to determine how that will affect the holistic transfer plans.
