      More pre-season friendlies announced
      May 26, 2016 05:58:11 pm
The Reds will play four UK-based friendlies during July before departing for America...

Hot the heels of yesterday's announcement that Liverpool will face Barcelona at Wembley on Saturday, August 6, the club has today confirmed a further four UK-based pre-season fixtures.

The Reds will play Tranmere Rovers on Friday, July 8, Fleetwood Town on Wednesday, July 13, Wigan Athletic on Sunday, July 17 and Huddersfield Town on Wednesday, July 20.

All four matches will take place at the home of Liverpool's opponents as work continues to get the new Main Stand at Anfield ready for the 2016/17 season.

The games at Prenton Park and Highbury Stadium will both kick-off at 7.00pm BST, while the trip to the DW Stadium is a 4.00pm BST kick-off and the John Smith's Stadium contest is at 7.45pm BST.

In the days following the Huddersfield encounter, Liverpool will fly to a summer training camp in California where they will also start their participation in the International Champions Cup.

Before travelling back to the UK to face Barcelona in their third game of the tournament, the Merseysiders will face Chelsea and AC Milan in the early hours of Wednesday, July 27 and Saturday, July 30 respectively.

Realistically, what with the Euros, who will be playing in these four early ones?

Kids and those for the chop I'm guessing?

England will have been back for a few weeks by then.

Just saw England's group again. Would be F***ing hilarious if they were sent packing after the group stages! That would be a new low for England and I think it would displace his time here at Liverpool as Roy's No 1 Almighty F**k Up.

man i feel bad for you. so cynical. not a consideration that klopp is building a massive preseason? remember, despite all the constant fear talk, it is still a sport, klopp is still a coach, he's using preseason to coach a team for a sport... never forget that.

Pretty much sold out on the 'presale' because it wasn't on general sale for very long.

Liverpool FC to play Mainz friendly in Germany

Liverpool FC today announced they will travel to Germany this summer as part of their pre-season preparations.

The Reds will face 1. FSV Mainz 05 on Sunday August 7 at the Opel Arena in the city, home to the Bundesliga team managed by Jürgen Klopp from 2001-2008.

The game will kick off at 2.45pm UK time and will be the final pre-season friendly in a summer of warm-up matches that will also see Liverpool compete in four domestic fixtures, as well as the International Champions Cup in the USA and UK.

Billy Hogan, LFC’s chief commercial officer, said: “We last played Mainz 05 in a friendly in 2006 so it will be great to meet them again this summer.

“Our fanbase in Germany has grown significantly and this will be a fantastic opportunity for our fans in Germany to see the Reds play a Bundesliga team.”

Tickets will go on sale on June 23 via https://www.eventimsports.de/ols/mainz05.

22 hours after the Barcelona game?

One eleven for Barcelona and another for Mainz?

We'll have a third of the squad arriving slightly later but still needing minutes before the season start? So maybe that's to give more minutes before the season starts to more players?

      Does seem odd though.

Excellent for Jürgen to be taking the lads over there, I'm sure it'll be sell out too.

We're going to have a split squad taking part in pre season, those playing in Internationals and those not so games right up to the death for those coming back later makes sense.

Jürgen's already said some won't be ready for the early league games as they won't be as far along their pre season fitness sessions and depending on how far they go in the Euros some might only have just come back.

Looking at the dates if any of our players get to the final, they won't be reporting back until 8th August so let's hope it's not an England v Belgium final or we're fu**ed  :D

Tex and Ilori are going for Portugal but Tex isn't with us now.  Firmino hasn't been called up by Brazil but could have been so it leaves Karius but again there's no guarantee that he'll be called up either as Germany have so many keepers they could choose from.

Bit of a farce this year cos most 3Rd placed teams go through too.

The way I saw it was, it meant every game had something to play for, while just 3 of the 16 who qualified, did so before the final group game. It was the most competitive Euros ever.

Pretty much all our players are back now, and only Can has being spared the pointless trek to the far end of America.
