Ox will play a lot for us when he is fit - he adds goals and running with the ball from the centre of the park.

hmmmm, I'm not so sure, when Ox is playing well then he's a big plus to the team but very often he goes missing in games, I honestly think we have better options in midfield. Having said that I of course hope for his speedy return, the more able bodies the better.

Good point, just got used to him in central defence.

You can’t leave out Fabs, one of the best in the world.

I'd say our core midfield three should be Fabinho, Hendo and Thiago, but depending on whether we need to go more defensive or aggressive we have fantastic options on the bench when everyone is fit. We really are starting to get a formiddable squad, just need a few more healthy CB's.

If he's off in the Summer and continues to give a brilliant performance, I'm alright with it because he would be a good servant.

Hope he continues on this form.

his form has been brilliant of late. However, if he does leave next summer at least we have Curtis Jones in the waiting

Jones is already ready ;) Gini needs to continue to be professional.

Thanks hun, I just watched him being interviewed on Sunday and as his face beamed his eyes just lit up with happiness, this isn't a face of someone who wants to leave the club.

No way is he off, no matter what he was thinking, his mind has to be saying why in the World would I want to go to a team on a massive decline, Messi will probably F**k off within the year, they just lost 0-3 at home to Juventus, what the F**k was I thinking....where's that contract extension?

Agree with this. It isn't that his value isn't recognized, it's looking ahead to future value, budget, etc. Players don't stay at the same level forever and part of the decision-making on contracts is determining what each player will be like for the duration of the deal, not just what he's doing now.

It's easy for us to say "he's been great so we should give him a new deal, no matter what the cost," but of course there is some limit to this.. Nobody lasts/stays forever.

But if they can agree on a price, of course he'd be great to have around going forward.

Gini might be the first casualty of turning the team over towards younger players. When we signed Thiago my impression was that it meant Gini was not going to resign as they are close in age.

This team needs a lot of retooling over the next few years as we have key players such as Thiago, Gini, Van Dijk, Matip, Bobby, Hendo all of who are already either 30 or on the cusp of turning 30 and we need to start turning spots over with younger players. If we want to be competitive long-term we need to slowly turn these players over and refresh the squad, and not wake up one day and be a team full of mid-30s players well past their prime.

As good as Gini is, giving him a 3-4year deal is not good business because of his age and the amount of "older" players we have. Retooling this team is not something that is going to happen overnight, where we wake up one day in the summer and all those 6 players are gone and 6 news ones come in. It's going to be gradual and i think Gini is the first one. If he would sign a 1-2 year deal it would work much better but at his game it is likely he wants a longer term deal, which you cannot blame him for.

you make a good enough point man.
Offering a long-term deal to Gini would not work in the club's favour considering he is 29 already.

100%, and it was for the same reason the special few on this board get on Bobby, not enough goals, but being too blind and ignorant to see how much work there is to this Klopp machine to keep it ticking and the huge role he plays in it.
