Liverpool 6-1 Watford: In game and Post Match discussion
      Nov 06, 2016 01:14:52 pm

Anfield waiting to go 1st in the league again

Starting XI: Karius, Clyne, Lucas, Matip, Milner, Henderson, Can, Lallana, Mane, Coutinho, Firmino

Subs: Mignolet, Klavan, Moreno, Wijnaldum, Ejaria, Origi, Sturridge

No Dejan Lovren for #LFC today. Centre-back ruled out with a virus. Lucas Leiva takes his place.

Lucas Leiva starts for Liverpool in this afternoon’s Premier League encounter with Watford at Anfield.

The Brazilian partners Joel Matip in the centre of defence with Dejan Lovren ruled out due to a virus.

Meanwhile, James Milner returns at left-back after missing last week’s trip to Crystal Palace and Emre Can retains his berth in the centre of midfield.

Lucas for Lovren and Can for Wijnaldum.

      Why no Wijnaldum?

      Hmm

Surprised Lucas gets the nod above Klavan - I thought he was excellent when he first came in.

Needing to play Lucas shows we need another CB if he refuses to play Sakho

Go on Lucas lad! Always happy to see him in the line-up and I reckon Sakho might be best getting another club come January! It seems Can is deffo Jürgen's first choice but must admit id prefer to see Wijnaldum in there given how well our midfield three has done in the opening part of the season. Chuffed to bits to see Milner back in the team. Fancy us to win this one 3-1, Firmino, Mane and Milner with the goals.

      Why no Wijnaldum?

      Hmm

He's probably gone for Can because of his size and how he likes to battle. From what I can remember Watford are big and strong in their midfield so we'd be pretty weak in that area if we had a trio of Hendo, Lallana & Wijnaldum.

Yeah me too, I think Jürgen loves Can, it's tough on Wijnaldum given how well he had been playing prior to the injury but we looked terrific with Can/Hendo/Lallana last weekend so there has been no drop-off in performance.

      Hmm

Klopp prefers Can, tbf he is ahead of Gini, but it's great to have a quality replacement, gutted for Dejan, isn't this the second virus he's had in as many months?
Anyhoo Lucas has shown he's capable when asked so I'm not concerned,  height may be a issue but it would have been anyway, good side, good enough for Twatford.

      Hmm

Read that Gini had a bout of illness earlier in the week.  Could be that he isn't 100% and therefore Emre keeps his place by default.

      Hmm

Don't think Wijnaldum's started since he got injured for Holland.  Lucas and Milner in for Lovren (ill again) and Moreno.

Why exactly? Lucas has been brilliant in that position whenever he comes in..

Agree, he's been fine. Always that doubt of a daft tackle though isn't there?

Well, he's still only 22 I think, so bound to be inconsistent.
I tend to overlook his little errors, and look at his overall game, but I understand why people worry about him; he's definitely got a mistake or 2 in him pretty much every match.
IMO the good far outweighs the bad.

Why ? Because he is not a natural CB, he may have done ok apart from against Leicester and that mistake happened because of that . Tottenham he gave a penalty away again had 3 or 4 hacks at him get away with it in centre circle not in the penalty area

Lucas has one of the best vertical leaps in the team, apparently.

      Maybe explains why.
