Its not brain Science we scored 8 goals and missed a lot of chances, 21 shots on goal , I wasnt shure I lost count myself.

Peter Crouch was magnificent and why Raffa leaves him out is beyond me, in the previous league games, when Crouchie has come on late we have created in those last minutes when Crouch has come on more chances than in the entire previous 70 or so minutes.

      Crouch has to start,

Only player who never impressed me with quality of touch or pace was Veronin, but Raffa doesnt like to be proved wrong with his buys, but I think and hesitate to say that Veronin is not of Premier league quality.

      Anybody else agree.

Maybe the Russian coach was right about comments made about Veronin.

Well, right now, I would rather, it was more of the team confidence that gave us that win than player selection. Imagine what we could serve the opposition if, regardless of team selection, we could still give Man U a good 8 - 0 whuppin' that would be sweet!

How I wish the next international break doesn't come when it is...

Spain have a critical game vs Sweden on the 17th - Torres (and Xabi if available) sure to be involved... wouldn't be surprised to see Arbeloa called up to... Reina to travel also...

England - Stevie G as usual to play a critical part IF Israel (Yossi) beat/draw vs Russia...

Argentina (Masch) have a world cup qualifier in Argentina on the 17th too...

...and travelling by Kuyt and probably a couple more... and we have a vaccum at Melwood again...

Crouch definitely made a difference,Rafa has got to give him a run in the side now and see if he can develop a partnership with Torres?

I agree!! But will Rafa do this? Hope so!

The only major difference as I see it was confidence.

Until that first goal went in we were playing well, but no better than in other games during our 'terrible' run. Once we got ourselves in front though, and even more so after the second goal, you could see that our heads had lifted. I don't think we tried anything different that we haven't been doing all season, but because of our confidence being higher what we tried actually worked.

I agree that when the goals started going in the confidence grew but I think that another important factor was that we were keeping possession a lot better.  Even before we scored I thought we looked a lot more dangerous than in recent matches and we were creating more and better chances.

Why was this?  I think that the absence of Sissoko and Kuyt was a significant factor.  Both have been guilty in previous games of losing possession in midfield and attack.  This resulted in promising positions coming to nothing or the defence being put under pressure from counter attacks.  I think this has been a significant factor in our loss of confidence.

I've got to agree with you Oldred (anyway your not old !!)

We definitely passed the ball around a lot better on Tuesday, the midfield looked more composed, and we were the ones who were picking up the loose ball.  As the game went on we grew in confidence, easy to play in a winning team ;D

The roaming defence worked well, pushing up at all times, but lets not forget, it isnt Porto?

Would more gaps have appeared using this formation against better teams/ Have to admit , it has to be good for confidence. being a Scot, I cant wait for the International break, all we have to do is beat italy at home ;D :D

Hope the confience stays with the team as it was great to see such passion and play.

I think I would make wallpaper for the house out of the picks if we beat Man U. 8:0 ;D :D

Sometimes I think our problem is scoring a goal and then defending. If we kept on attacking against Arsenal then we could of done better... but I didn't expect that because the team was seriously disjointed that game.

It's important to look for good pairings all over the field. Arbeloa & Benayoun were perfect on the right, Mascherano & Gerrard always in the middle, Aurelio & Kewell on the left I recon, Babel & Torres up front. Work on this and maybe things might come good.

What about Crouch upfront? you know he did a lot with the Bekistas game.

Not too much to work on then.
