      Nov 28, 2016 11:39:32 am
A Cup game and hopefully chance of seeing two teams wanting to play football after the anti football tactics of Moyes at the weekend.

I imagine there will be changes for this one even though it's a quarter final.

Shame Sturridge has not been able to train which will probably mean he misses out from a tournament where he has been scoring for fun.

Not training does not mean not being picked in the league cup.

Not training means not being picked in the league cup? I missed that in the rule book....

Klopp usually insists no training you don't start the next game. Makes sense really!

Should still have enough strength, in the side fielded, to avoid any shocks. I am planning on watching this game in the local, Tuesday night. Think Origi must start upfront, who with, not sure. Older fans like myself, will remember the battles we had with Leeds, when they had the likes of Bremner, Giles, Charlton, Hunter etc playing for them.

The first experience I had of this fixture was the FA Cup in 95/96(?) When we drew in the original game but we beat them in the replay. I had that FA Cup run on VCR as a kid, must have watched it 50 times :D.

It does if you're not training because you're injured

Since Lallana would be fit for Saturday, I would like him to displace Can from the 11 and so the latter starts tomo. Also, I guess Joe would make the bench tomo as he played 90 mins in the last U23s game.

      Origi
      Ejaria Wilson
      Can Stewart Grujic
      Moreno Klavan Lucas TAA
      Mignolet

Subs- Manninger, Clyne, Gomez, Hendo, Brannagan, Lallana, Mane

Think we should field a stronger side than the ones suggested on here. They're 5th in the Championship and have only lost once in their last seven games, they'll be up for it. We have a great opportunity to win this competition. Looking at the teams that are still in it, we must be favourites. I'd go with a side similar to the one we used at Derby:

Bench: Karius, Milner, Lovren, Wijnaldum, Can, Ejaria, Woodburn

If Firmino isn't fully fit, bring in Ejaria or Woodburn. Doubt Sturridge will be available and if he is, he'll probably start on the bench.

EDIT: both Firmino and Sturridge won't be available tomorrow.

We can't just swap out the whole team, Leeds are no mugs. We should have a strong bench just in case and then start the core of our regular team together with a few reserves/kids etc. We should be winning this game comfortably though.

I like this lineup except I would start Kev Stewart in place of Hendo. I'd love to see Woodburn but that may be the least likely name in the starting XI.

I also hope Lucas does not play 90 in midfield anymore. As a late sub to shut things down he is fine, but I don't think he can keep up from that position for a full game anymore; better used as a center back.

They were the days mate, Bremner and Keegan having a scrap at Wembley and both being sent off, it was a man's game back then  ;)

Too true, those where the days, when football, was a proper physical game.

We 'ad some reet umdingers over't years with them Yorkshire boys .

65 Final was the start of some big games between the clubs.

Monk is knocking some shape into them and early in the season he is just one place outside of the play offs.

Could be tight ... on the other hand if the dam breaks who knows ?

Skip my immediate thought when I saw this thread  was 1965 and how the city of Liverpool came alive.I think we will have far too much skill and ability for Leeds and look for a good win for our REDS.

Considering the fact this is a quarter final game and looking at the teams who have been knocked out of this competition already, this is a great opportunity to add some silverware to the cabinet.

This is no easy game, they are doing well in the championship, full of confidence, and at the end of the day Leeds are a big club. They will come here with loads of support and will be well up for this.

I expect Jürgen to make some changes as we have a busy schedule coming up, but I hope he doesn't underestimate Leeds and we still field a reasonably strong side out.

Remember going to Elland Road for a cup game a few years back - think it was just after Michael Shields had been released cos he was there at the game.  The entrance for the away fans was shady so it provided an opportunity for them to throw things at us.

Think we beat them so that's my Leeds related story.

I've not been following the trials and tribulations of Leeds this season but I do know that this is a quarter final and I think the fact it isn't an earlier round should strengthen our resolve to get a result.

With Coutinho, Lallana, Sturridge and (possibly) Firmino out then the boss might think it's wise to not even risk Mane.  For a quarter final game this could be an even 'weaker' side than the last round.

      Come on red men!
