My suspicion is that Danny's "virus" and the amount of time it's keeping him out, is as good as him downing tools after it being made obvious he wasn't fancied. We have a dozen or so games left this season, Sturridge will surely be sold after that, and he doesn't appear to be showing much appetite to rush back.
Can you blame him? Well probably yes, but there's no question that lihe Benteke before him he hasn't been given a fair shake, not really. Our determination to play Firmino at all costs has now seen two pretty good strikers whisked out the door, and I do wonder sometimes if the Brazilian with the funny haircut is worth the unswerving loyalty.
I suppose last season when with the squad Jürgen inherited we almost won two trophies you could argue it almost worked. This season though it's been baffling in the extreme, and I guess Sturridges less than enthusastic urge to come back and join the party is predictable. Particularly so when the manager has preferred Origi over him (bafflingly to me) on so many occasions. Origi remains fit and available but unfortunately for us, him and the manager though, "fit, available but not very good" is the full appraisal.
