Who's reporting that mate? Only one I can see on mine is that indykaila guy and he's about as reliable as my dog at knowing about football.

That's what he'll get if he goes to Citeh, Man U or Chelsea (maybe even the Arse). If he gets it from us tho, how's Phil Coutinho gonna feel?

He won't get it from us Mick. Not a chance.

I'm not saying we definitely won't sign him but not at those wages.

yeah despite how far we've come, i think if another one of those clubs in and says bam 200k he will go. if we umm and ahh about it and offer less he couldn't accept. all depends who his agent is, i guess. is he a good one? as good as agents can be, at least?

I wouldn't be surprised if either City or United are just waiting for us to make fools out of ourselves by bidding for him and then they come in with a ridiculous offer that just blows us out the water. Then its back to Steven Caulker ( who was so impressive for us in his loan spell )

I think VVD would be a very good signing.

probably the commanding center back that we are looking for

i hope that whoever we sign is the commanding centre back we are looking for

however that label has been attached to Lovren, Sakho and others

think our scouts are out of date

for £50 mill.....i would expect proven talent at the highest level or something very special.

This guy could very easily fall into the Lovren etc trap where they come in and are unable to adjust to a bigger club thats under the spotlight week in week out. At Southampton they can go games and play poor with little or no pressure

      50MM and 200K a week is absurd.
We could get Koulibaly (my preference) or Tah at a better price.

We can't compete with that and people complain but what can you do against Oil sheiks who have a endless pit of money?

I suppose keeping shtum over our targets might be a start or even better start shopping outside of the overinflated EPL market.

Can City just go piss off already? I'm sick and tired of the way they try to buy the title. Yes we should compete financially, but how can anyone do that with wages like that? It's ludicrous.

How I see it is we're paying Lovren 100k a week. Van Dijk would be our record signing so he should be paid accordingly. Offering him 20k more makes no sense to me but then again not much makes sense to me anymore where football is concerned.

But see they aren't going to pay him more than Phil and what's he on? 150k?

There has to be a wage structure that's fair or then you piss off the other players, just like in a corporate environment. I'm not saying I agree with it, just saying that's how it is.

Unfortunate but true and not much the club can do in these circumstances. This is probably our biggest problem right now. Not only can City and Chelsea pay higher wages than us but they have two of the world's best managers in place which is a hugely attractive draw. The deciding factor is going to be the much vaunted pulling power of Klopp. This is one transfer though that if we don't get it, FSG can't be blamed for because they do appear to have done everything reasonably expected to land the player.

The other day on here suggesting that City, Chelsea etc would offer more wages than us if they wanted VVD was very controversial. One fella got himself all worked up about it, then deleted my posts replying to him (he's a mod too!).

Like I said back then, we'll only get players which they don't want. I'm not even complaining about it, just stating it as it's obvious.

Well I guess we'll see how much pulling power Klopp truly has. Either way this just highlights that FSG have taken us as far as they can without external investment if we're to compete at a level required to truly challenge.

The Times reporting that Man City cheikh offering 180K wages to VVD. LFC offering 120K. I think we can scratch this one off the list.

No I'm just showing that you are talking out of your ass. Typically if I feel strongly that we shouldn't buy a certain player, I can provide some alternatives I think would be better.
