Yeah, the people running it.

Not really, he has five years on his contract. So Southampton can do whatever they want if they want. And yes contract these days do matter if the club is willing to force their hand.

When it comes to amounts close to 50m though, Saints could really use that money. It would be different if we talking about Madrid or United. I dont think Southampton seriously expected him to stay for the six years of that contract, more of a way of strenghtening their position in a negotiation

Doesn't quite make sense though. The start of the statement the club say about recent media speculation, to then saying about a misunderstanding and we have ended our interest.

So are we taking responsibility for doing something we shouldn't have or are we taking responsibility for media speculation? Because media speculation is just that, speculation. There is always speculation.

I don't think this is the end of anything VVD related, just a slight feeling I have. Probably entirely wrong though 

The club had given the "green light" for Jürgen to contact VVD without making a formal offer. No doubt they believed they could entice him in, then lowball Southampton into a lesser fee. On the back of this, I fear the boss may "do one" to a club where there are less tw*ts involved...
