Well let's be honest, we weren't dealing with a packed schedule, any injuries (for the most part) and they weren't exactly playing their best 11 either. I applaud your optimism, but in no way do I think pre-season matches (one way or the other) have much bearing on what we do come time for real games that actually mean something.

Oh I agree its not a perfect comparison but still a very useful barometer of where we currently are measured against two of the top teams in Europe and we passed the test with flying colours.
We have every reason to be optimistic, at least against Hoffenheim FFS!

Yea definitely...my worry is just what happens if we get in a tough group and haven't strengthened our defense or we don't have depth to absorb injuries.

Tough yes but then again it was always going to be. We're favourites, 2nd leg at home should see us through.

I like us to score one, maybe two away goals. That should be key for us.

I like this team to score on the road ANYWHERE.

Am I right in thinking that even if we signed a defender now, it would be too late to register him for this round. I understand now Sept. 1 is the deadline for group stage, but for this playoff round our roster is as good as set, yes?

Away goal is key. If we don't get one the second leg will be horribly nervy

We will eat and sh*t them and anyone who is afraid of this tie really needs to have a word with themselves. 😄

Oh... and... coincidence maybe (and yes, I did mention it, a few times, a while back) but will qualification 'proper' finally see a push to invest in "big names"? 😉

After all there's no point in "squandering money" on a team not in the C.L.: right? 🙄

I PRAY there is not some wait and see approach here. That would be beyond wrong.

I agree we should have no issue advancing to the CL group stage, even if this is the most difficult opponent we could have drawn.

If we did drop to Europa League....(and we WONT, but if we did, either at this stage of if we finished 3rd in our group), we should still go all out and try to win that competition as well, shouldn't we?

Good draw, you know what to expect from them and it's a short flight time.
Could have been a lot worse.

      All true .

We just stuffed Bayern at home .

So what .   To win the CL we must be able to beat anyone in Europe .  Anyone .

They will be more worried about us .

For F**k sake, it's F***ing rigged. We were always going to get either Balotelli's Nice or Bobby's Hoffenheim.

Oh well, look forward to two cracking games and hope we F***ing get through. Going to be immense.

If we don't beat them we don't deserve to be in Europe. Simple.

I have no idea what they're like, but reading others' opinions they'll give us a stern-ish kind of test. Shouldn't expect anything else.

We should go through, I have every faith in the manager and players here.

Barring a catastrophe where we forget how to play football, there are only 8 teams left and we're one of them.

I think we can win this with a bit of luck

Imagine beating the Mancs in the final.

They have to try and score a goal first in the knock out stages.  What an absolute dump yard for wasted talent.
