Missing chances erodes confidence. You end up getting more desperate and committing more forward and then being hit on the break and so on
Had we taken our chances before conceding our 1st goals which we had so much of, we would be ok
Just for context, city and Arsenal have scored around 12-15 more goals than their expected this season in the premier league according to sky sports
We have scored 2 less I believe, we should be scoring more than we have and an extra 12-14 pl goals would have gone a long way
Is our defending as a team Perfect? No, is it good yes. Our attack is also good
But to win a league, we needed one of them to be excellent imo which neither has been
As pointed out before, even when we were in 'good form' we were conceding goals. There was no 'desperation' there or chasing games. We gave up goals.
Look at the 2 goals concede against everton. That had nothing to do with 'getting desperate'. Just simple set plays and Trent not challenging headers.
Vs west ham. Bowens goal was a simple header. We were already ahead 1-2 and they equalized. Michail Antonio got between Trent and the CB (a constant problem since last season) We were not 'desperate' at that point. You are crafting a narrative to suit your argument in the face of the blatant fact that we cannot defend.
Even that old miserable codger Steve Nicol has been saying for months, even when we were winning, that we are too open and its not going to keep working. I thought he was just a miserable old git, but he was 100% right.
We leak silly needless goals. Not counter attacking goals because we're desperate. We leak simple headers, lack of concentration, rebounds from crosses. Twisting yourself into knots to blame the attack for the goals we concede is crazy.
We already had a season where we scored 101 goals and conceded 50 and finished 2nd. You can't go half a season with 4 clean sheets and win the league. You can't 'out score' everyone with a leaky defense. This is basic football 101.
