Oh and stepping up to play offside is a perfectly legitimate and indeed essential part of a defensive handbook.....suggesting otherwise is ludicrous.
If you don’t you’d be defending in your 6yard box all day
But if you get to high, you run the risk of being beaten by pace, by stepping up at the wrong time as Gomez did. One of the reasons we don't defend well enough is that we do defend high, we play 4-3-3 which is often 4-2-4. We are well and truly a front foot team. Can be fantastic but lose possession and we can be undone as we defend a high line.
And if our defenders are prone to errors and we have a keeper who's best attribute is shot stopping but his overall game is average at best we are not going to be top 4/5.
