In don't think we've overspent, we've played what was needed to get Jürgen his No1 target, that's what big clubs in (England at least) do.

FA cup so yea. It's not as important as a league game, good time to give Ings a run out too.

He might not be the answer to the defensive problems we have but it's a start at least, A new GK in the summer as well and a top notch DM too.

He won't be the answer, for sure. As long as we continue with Migs, we will still carry on conceding cheap goals. We've got the building of a good spine to the team. VVD -- Keita/Coutinho-- Salah/Firmino or generally however you want to look at it. But whichever way you do look at it, it will still be lacking the keeper.

If the club can spunk that amount on a defender then they can do it on a world class GK, Klopp is the draw so why not try and get Neuer , his age shouldn't be a problem GK's play into their late thirties.

Can't see us ever paying such money for a keeper to be honest. If we did though then I'd go for Oblak personally.

This. We'll no doubt be asking ourselves whether Van Dijk is worth it next time the ball is given a ceremonious guard of honour into the net by Mignolet.

I'm sure VVD is a great player but to be so great a player to make us forget about who's in goal is something that seems a little far fetched. His value will only be fully realised with a class goalkeeper behind him.

That would be a true statement of intent from the club and Athletico would sell if the big money was there.

Well, there's a release clause there so if we wanted him and really did want to show such a statement of intent, we can have it so Atletico don't even have a say in the matter.

The market prices are crazy but that's how it is and we're not going to get  players cheap anymore. The club needs to kick on and get shut of dodgy keepers that haven't done the job.

All the best to Virgil tonight on his Anfield debut.
Delighted for him. And us :)
Not sure how sharp he will be, but just having him out there should lift everyone.
What a night it would be if we could win and he somehow got on the scoresheet.
      CMON VVD!!!!!

Calm, Cool, Collected....ran that defense and didn't even look fussed...took control, was vocal and scored the winner.

This. Won virtually everything, passing was good and commanded the defence. Noticed he kept on telling Karius and others where to pass the ball to, when to go and when to stay. Matip wasn't great but he looked more at ease, maybe without having to lead the defence and can just get on with his game. Don't think we've seen a CB as calm and as controlled as Virgil was for a while.

      Reminds me of Hyypia.

Yeah exactly, was about the most effective yet effortless performance I've seen from a CB.

He oozes so much class. The goal was a cherry on the cake.
I'm so much more confident with our defense now.  ;D ;D

Calm and reassured at the back and a real threat up front.
A lot of pressure on him tonight, but cruised thro it.
      Delighted for him.
