Not sure what was worse, the refereeing or our performance on the pitch.
Mind you these are all knee jerk reactions because I'm pissed.....
Gomez and TAA...what a worthless combination today. I can't decide which one was worse. Maybe Trent picked up a knock? At least that would give him an excuse. Him and Gomez looked like they've never played together before.
VVD...probably the best player on the pitch for me and he even had a couple of brain farts, although I think we'd have been more likely to score if we'd have moved him up to CF.
Klavan...ok, nervy a couple times, nothing great, but overall I thought he did ok. Was actually more incisive with his passing than Hendo
Moreno...you would think he had a decent game from watching, but when you compare his performance to what Robertson brings to the table...it's not even close. He's not good enough, offers no creativity or accurate forward passing. He can whip a ball in, but it's seldom at the right time.
Hendo...worked hard, that's about it. Didn't really run the show like against Roma. Don't know if his knock affected him but he wasn't the midfield nuisance/enforcer he was midweek.
Gini....probably the player I yelled at the most. Couldn't believe the number of times he took up positions that actually brought defenders into areas where our other players had space and time. Clogged up the game, slowed down our play and when he has the ball anywhere near the box, it's a black hole, you know that nothing good is going to happen.
Firmino...hot and cold this game, wasn't his usual self but worked hard and harassed....passes a bit misplaced, I think he had to do too much defensive work and it didn't allow him to get in the flow of the game offensively.
Salah...well, he's human I guess. I thought that first chance was a goal, couldn't believe it wasn't. It happens sometimes. Also thought Pieters got away with murder and probably shouldn't have been in the game from the number of fouls he accumulated against Mo.
Ings....thought he worked the hardest of the front three. With Pieters basically trying to take Mo out of the game, Ings had a lot of the ball and was very unfortunate with the offside call on his goal. Still....just not sure if he's the second choice we need.
Clyne....did ok, but I don't think he's displacing TAA for that RB spot.
Milner....not much Jimmy could do at that point in the game but he was probably our most creative player once he came on.
Klopp....he tried to rest some guys (who likely needed it) and it backfired. This lineup looked like they've never played together, no continuity, no understanding, nothing. Just a bunch of guys thrown together for a pickup game. Didn't quite understand the subs. Would have liked to have seen more offensive minded players. Would have thrown Solanke on and/or Woodburn.
We need to find some depth for our attack this summer, and we need to find some depth for our defense as well.
We were aching for Adam Lallana today, don't think people understand how much we are missing him.
Super frustrating, but we bounced back last week after a lackluster performance. If we do it this week then I'll forget this result pretty quickly. But for now, that really feels like a game that we should have had.
Oh yea...and did I mention that the referee was atrocious.
